A little brag on Henry re: movies

Last Sunday, I took Henry to see the Veggie Tales: Pirates Who Don't Do Anything movie. We stayed through the whole thing! That is the first movie that Henry has seen the whole way through at a movie theater. I was so proud of him. He loves Veggie Tales, and we have most of their videos at home. We had gone to two different preview pirate parties with a trailer from the movie, pirate costumes, treasure, all that stuff, so the movie was really hyped well. We met other kids and parents from our church at the theater.

Henry had a lifelong fear of movie theaters. When he was 2, I took him to see "Lilo & Stitch". Even I thought it was uncomfortably loud, but Henry just snuggled up to me and fell asleep--for most of the movie. It never occurred to me at the time that it was because he was TERRIFIED and he couldn't do anything but zone out. When he was 4 (I think), I tried to take him to see "Finding Nemo". He started SCREAMING when we got to the doorway of the theater. It was dark in there. We were late and the movie had already started, so it was LOUD in there. TOTAL MELTDOWN. There was NO WAY he was going to go into that theater, so I got my money back and we left.

Forward to last Sunday. Henry is 7 now, and he was very excited about going to see the Pirate movie. He was nervous too, and he asked me if it was going to be loud. But he did so great. I'm so proud. About 10 minutes before it ended, he asked if it was almost over and I said it was. I asked if he could stay til the end, and he said okay. He practically sprinted out of the theater when it was over but we watched the whole thing. Yay!

Now he is fascinated with the Malco (our movie chain) website, the movie ratings, which movies are playing at which theaters, and how many minutes long all the movies are. He checks out that site several times a day. Also, he is asking me to take him to see "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" because it is the only other G-rated movie playing around here. Thank goodness it is at the cheap, second-run theater.

I have always loved going to the movies, so I'm excited that I can take Henry now!

OH FUN!!!!

We love going to the movies. It is about the one family activity that we know will always be successful. BUT it wasn't that way until the past few years. Prior to that it was near meltdown each time at some point because it was so overstimulating.

It is so nice to make it to where it is enjoyable. We love going to the movies together as a family. We look for the next ones coming out, etc. It is such a great thing. Too bad it is so expensive!

I hope you and Henry have many happy movie dates.

Renee
