I am all choked up here, lol.

Cait just called me into watch this program on Animal Planet. One section had a little girl with mild autism, epilepsy and a heart defect who loved this one monkey she saw on TV because the monkey had special needs (epilepsy too). THe little girl had written letters to the monkey, sent gifts, etc and wanted to go 17hours away to see the monkey but couldn't because of her medical needs.

Well the zoo keeper drove the 17 hours up to the girl with the monkey as a surprise. It did a wonderful job showing autism, particularly our part of the spectrum, the mom and the lovely relationship of that girl with the monkey.

Ok, getting choked up again.....

Oh how sweet. I'm so sorry I missed that. I really need to program my DVR to start catching anything ASD related. I'll have to think up all the keywords I can.

Maybe I'll check the Animal Planet website to see if they're going to rerun the episode. :)

The summary of the program on the website said nothing about autism. It was kind of a major aside in the middle of the show.

The show is actually about a small zoo in Alabama that was destroyed or similar in the hurricane and how it is restarting. The monkey I guess is from that zoo so as part of the story they told about this little autistic girl and this special needs monkey. Very sweet.

Renee,

Thanks! I'm going to go see if I can find another air date for it. :)
