I took Hannah to the doctor yesterday. While we were there dh called and said the school investigator wanted to see the bruises and interview her. I wasn't sure about doing that. I asked the doctor what she thought. She gave me the phone number of the child protection agency and said to ask them. I called them and they said to call the sherrifs office and let them handle it. The advocacy agency I called said to call the police too. My mom wants me to call the police too. Dh & I weren't sure we wanted to go that far. My sister said she wouldn't. Its very hard.
Anyway I decided to let the investigator see the bruise near her knee, the worst one with the broken skin. Dd would have had to take her pants off for him to see the others and she didn't want to do that. He took pictures. He said what they look for is if the bruise is clearly visable after 24 hours, which it was, and the skin is clearly broken. He asked her what happened. She told him which I was surprised she did. I was very proud of her. She said the classroom teacher and the aide tipped up her chair and knocked her to the floor. She hadn't told me that. The investigator wants to interview her some more today at our house with me present. He will interview dh & I too.
Hannah's principal called last night to strongly encourage us to send her back to school so they can provide for her education. I told him I was providing for her saftey and that comes first. He said they'd give her an alternative placement, in the resource room. Its not an appropriate placement for her which I told him. Its like the size of a closet for one, with kids coming and going all day.
Another advocate, not the one I mentioned above, told me not to send her back to that school no matter what happens because dd would pay for it. :( I really hate to think that may be true. I don't know what we will do. I don't think I'm cut out to homeschool but the thought of sending her back to that school makes my throat close up. I will do what ever it takes though to keep her safe & healthy.

Don't send her back...from a legal standpoint, the school wants her back because by doing so, it would be your way of "admitting" that you feel the school is safe. If this should go as far as the court system, it could work against you. Don't do it.

Samantha,
Don't send her back. GO to the district and look for an alternative school. Let them know about this incident so they are well within limits.
This is what happened when Sravan was in first grade (then undiagnosed). Sravan was eating lunch in the lunch area with whole of kids. SOme of the kids misbehaived and all the kids were pulled out and were asked to line up in sun. FOr Sravan, a) he hadn't eaten and is already hypoglycemic b) Sensitivity to light and sound. So he refused to do what was asked. Was sent to principal's office. Since they still did not give him his lunch, his behaviour went down hill. He had an SST which requires the school to call parents, instead the school called the police. I never sent Sravan back to that school. I felt totally insecure that a school cannot handle a 6 yr old in a more appropriate manner. Till today this incident has left a major scar and sometimes asks me whether he was BAD or the school principal was BAD.
take care,
