Victor didn't inherit the AS from me, it was DH. We have a set of friends around here who have two teenage kids. Now being the "cool" second parents, we didn't see anything wrong with the shirt that the 14 year old daughter asked for her birthday but her mom called me and said it was inappropriate. Okay, since she's not our kid, I tell her no problem. When I tell DH about it, he gets it into his head that he's going to find an appropriate shirt to buy her. Well after twenty minutes of looking through those shirts and me telling him no, I called him into the kitchen and said "She's not our child, while you and I might agree that those shirts aren't inappropriate, we're not buying it for our kids so we have to respect their decision regarding their kids." He changed subjects on me 5 times during that statement and I kept telling him "Let's focus." or "Okay, but we need to stay on target here." When I was done talking with him, he started laughing his head off. I asked him what was so funny and he said "I was just wondering when you were going to start wagging your finger at me." "I haven't been talked down to like that since I was 5, may I go to my corner now?" After he mentioned that, I told him no, I wasn't talking down to him but when I deal with Victor all day long having to keep him on topic, his jumping topics reminded me of him so I treated him like Victor.

Now, later on that night, he gives me a 45 min explanation on why he didn't feel like going out to the store. I lost my temper there, and I feel bad about it but I do understand now that it's just the way my boys think. After this epiphany I can now handle both guys with greater care.

I see a lot of my dh in my son too. The other day Dh was telling ds when you ask someone if they know what a word means or what something is and they say yes its rude to then go ahead and explain it to them anyway. I cracked up because dh does that sometimes! Ds said "Dad, I got that from you." LOL

The t-shirt read "I'm cute? no s#*t". At 14-15 knowing that she knows what word means, I didn't see anything wrong with it but again, not my kid.
