Looking for a friend

Hi,

I'm rather new to this site but I'm wondering if anyone out there lives in the Baltimore (Md) area. I'm looking for someone to hang out with who understands what I'm going through and won't ask me why my kid acts the way he does. I hope I'm not out of line.

I'm in Maryland, halfway between Baltimore & DC, but I'm a horrible IRL friend (heck, I'm an inconsistent cyber-friend)! Between multiple kids, 3 AS in the house (incl dh), one car, dh working 2 jobs, and multiple appointments and activities to try to attend to, I'm usually feeling overwhelmed and just want to hide out.

I don't remember whom, but I'm thinking there was someone up closer to you (unless it WAS you, and I forgot already). I have a terrible memory. Really bad!!! Have you posted before and I forgot? How old is your child? My AS kids are 8 & 12yo.

Hi my DS is 4 almost 4.5 years old and dx'd PDD-NOS. He's not a bad child but his speech is rather delayed and his attention span is rather short unless he likes what he's doing. Maybe I'm expecting too much for his age but like I can't go to a sit down restaurant because he won't sit still long enough to be served, I can't take him shopping unless I can put him in the cart or he will be all over the place. Is it him just being 4 or is it the spectrum?

It's both the age and the spectrum! Fun, huh?! Double whammy.

I'm sorry this is such a rough age/phase. I'd love to be a better neighbor/friend and hang out if I weren't so overwhelmed with my own crew. I'd absolutely "get" your kid if ours were playing together and wouldn't be even a teeny bit judgmental! It just constantly amazes me how so many of the moms on this board seem to manage their families and activities so much better than I do, esp when my kids are only "mild" AS.

Does your ds receive services through early intervention? Have you met any of your ds classmates and their moms that might live nearer to you?

We're in Baltimore County and DS is in a preschool program thru the Co he also gets after school hours but I haven't been impressed with the guy working with him.

The other kids in his preschool class haven't been diagnosed most of them are just developmentally delayed or maybe stupid I don't know. I try to get to BCC-ASA monthly but I don't always make it and being the new kid there and everybody is friendly. But we going to the picnic in Hampstead on the 24th have you heard of it?
