If it's in the IEP then they have no business making him wait 3 weeks, especially at this crucial stage of his development. Get onto the county today and give them more than an earful, but very direct with you questions, "When was the county going to tell you of your therapist change?"

"When can you exect the next therapy session for Tony , as according to his IEP he is entitled to so many minutes of speech a week?"

And if they try to blow you off or stall you definitely go the IEP route

"I do hope hios IEP will be followed to the letter, otherwise I may have to involve IDEA."

kwim???

Go kick behind girl!!!

Good for you for getting onto them so fast. We only had an IFSP with Cian for a few months as he turned 3 soon after his speech delay was recognized by the co. However, it is not exactly like an IEP. You may want to go visit the IEP board that Steph is cl of (she's AWESOME btw).

IDEA is the Individuals with Disabilities in Education ACT. It's what we as patents and guardians have at our back to make sure districts can't pull fast ones. The 45 sessions per year thng is curious. I do know when Cian had an IFSP he only received around 45 mins speech twice a month...it was pitiful, but at the time I really was clueless as to his needs and rights (Liam, ds#1 ASD, actually never received speech until this year-pragmatics mainly).

I am assuming the 45 session thing is accounting for school vacations, with an allowance for summer school if you get my drift. However it is quite ambiguous a statement and yes they may try to use it to buy them time. I would call for another IFSP mneeting and get that clarified once you get a new therapist set up. Make it a definite 45 min session weekly, or 45 mins bi-weekly etc.

Here's the IEP board link.

Good luck, and btw, Cian hasn't had speech since May and was supposed to start last week and I'm still playing phonetag with the school; they are about to get a pushy Mom show up at their door if thye don't get back to me by tomorrow. In it together girl!!!
