I'm Kate, from eastern PA.
My ds Ryan is 7.5, AS. First grade is going ok so far. We just joined cub scouts, we'll see how long it lasts. This Sunday, Ryan rode his bike without training wheels and without my holding him up for the first time! We need to keep practicing this so it sticks, he's getting too big for me to hold him up and run along side (and I'm getting too OLD!)
Guilty pleasure..watching reruns of crime/cop shows.. I've always watched Law & Order (all of them), then I was really into CSI (Las Vegas, can't get into the cast of Miami or NY) and now my fav is Without a Trace. My all time fav was Homicide, Life on the streets.. when I've having a really bad day I'll break out the DVDs after dh and ds go to bed, lol.

Josh (10yo) - suspected Aspie, currently undiagnosed. Started 5th grade at a new school this year with much bigger classes and no parapro to help keep him on task. Mainstreamed and finally getting some support. *knock on wood* Obsessed with Bionicles and Transformers.
Ryan (4yo) - starting to seriously show signs of being somewhere on the spectrum. Obsessed with Blues Clues and Diego. Very intelligent/verbal, but likes to spin in the kitchen while carrying on a conversation, line up cars, and throw tantrums when his routine/world is changed.
Also in the mix is NT almost 7yo William who lives with his father.
and for bonus points:
What is your favorite guilty pleasure: Bubble baths with a good book, and Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby
I'm Misty from the far-west suburbs of Chicago.
My DS is 8 and in 3rd grade, diagnosed Aspergers and ADHD. He attends a special ed class in a regular ed school with 8 boys, 1 full-time teacher and 2 full-time aides. He decided yesterday that he wants to skip 4th grade and go straight to 5th! He could probably do it academically, but we'll let that sort out later. He'll probably be in a combined 4th/5th grade class next year anyway.
Guilty pleasure - Survivor. I've watched it since the middle of the first season and follow all the spoilers and speculation about who will win.
While I appreciate that many of you consider "adult beverages" to be guilty pleasures, I consider them a necessity! So, I'll 'fess up- I'm a Makers Mark girl. What can I say, I LOOOOOOVE whiskey!
Paula and Dee - all that talk of Jameson's was giving me huge cravings!!! LOL

Some information about the child/ children who bring(s) you here. My ds, Liam is four years old. His current dx is SID and hypotonia. Dev/Beh psych also said he is socially delayed at around 2 year old level(at times). Socially he loves people goes up to anyone and wants to meet them talk to them. He hugs strangers at times. If he sees a neighbor come outside he will run and talk to them. He is in special ed pre-K with half typical and half kids with IEPs. He has OT, PT, APE and theraputic horseback riding. We have lots of temper tantrums, running away from me without looking back and he wants everything to go how he wants it to. Otherwise, Mommy might get hit, bit or pulled hair. Although Daddy got a real bad bite the other day. He is also very loving, handsome and smart. His speech has always been great. We are grappling with how/when/where to get a dx.
My dh is UnDx Asperger's

Vaughn - 8 yrs in 3rd grade - aspie (with anxiety and sensory issues). He is in a regular mainstream classroom the majority of the day but he does have a pull out in the morning for 1.5 hours and one in the afternoon for 1 hour.....he seems to be doing well with this arrangement.....breaks up his day for him and helps relieve some of the stress.
Guilty pleasure: my once a month therapy appointment - it is the only "me time" I get.....I go to Starbucks and get a coffee or mocha and then go and dump all of my problems and complaints on my therapist.....sad, but true

Eric, age 4. PDD-NOS dx at 18 mos. I also suspect possibility of mild mood disorder, but too early to tell. It could just be ASD related, though we are starting to see seasonal cycles, maybe. Although Eric had a pretty severe speech delay, he caught up pretty fast with ST, and were it not for the delay, he might have an aspie dx instead. Then there are days he seems more HFA. Who really knows? But he's a wonderful child, he's come so far. I never thought he'd speak, now he can. I never thought he'd be able to hold anything in his hand, now he is writing. I never thought he'd be potty trained, and now he is. He loves the Little Einsteins, Buzz Lightyear--or anything by Pixar, for that matter. Used to adore Thomas, that is fading. (I kind of miss Sir Topham Hat! LOL!) Red is his favorite color. Mars is his favorite planet. His current favorite food is black bean soup, which he drinks out of a mug and calls his "bean coffee." He loves to draw space-related things, usually spiral galaxies. He enjoys the Hubble website, but also Micky Mouse Clubhouse! He is an eclectic and adorable little character.
Guilty pleasures? I have so many! Yes, wine. Yes, Starbucks, but not too often. I just got an ipod and that's my latest pleasure, guess it's the repressed teenager in me! Don't get too watch much TV, but when I do, I love Dancing with the Stars, Skating with the Stars, Singing with Celebrities, any of those cheesy kinds of shows, I love them all!

Some information about the child/ children who bring(s) you here: Well, where to start with Addison???!! He is 12yrs old (next month) and has always been 'different'. He was classic AS when he was a toddler, although we didn't know it then, we just thought he was a product of none of our friends having children, so he spent all his time with adults. He gradually became more 'little professor-ish' as he got older. His Dad & I split when he was 5 1/2. Once in Kindergarten he began with the unusual behaviour, he had a very hard time socialising and by 6yrs had started with tics. When assessed at 7yrs he was found to have a very high IQ, although he never finished one piece of work in school or at home. He was also becoming more & more aggressive. At 8 he went to live with his Dad as he was becoming too aggressive for me to be able to handle, and a danger to his little sister, he also had been suspended so many times it was time for a change of school.
From 6-9 yrs we believed he was almost definately AS, due to his early years. We tried various meds, Zoloft & Catapres amongst them, but they seemed to work for a month or two, then he would be worse again. At around 9-10yrs he was Dx ADHD and at 11yrs someone *finally* agreed with me that he has Tourrettes Syndrome and some elements of OCD. Now they are back on Aspergers!!!!!
He is now on 56mg Concerta SR/day (or is it 54mg?, whatever that dose is!!) but we are still not sure we are actually 'there' yet. He is very socially inept and has now been to 4 schools, including attending a 'behaviour' school 4 days a week in 5th grade. He has an aide, but to me she appears more of a babysitter, just watching to make sure he doesn't get into trouble at recess and reminding him to keep on task in class, not helping him learn to integrate at all. He is off to High school in February and it scares me!!!He is physically and verbally agressive, explosive, impulsive, depressed, tic-cy and some days I think maybe it is BiPolar!! He still lives with his Dad, who now has a girlfriend and 2 'new' kids who are 2yrs old and 7 months old.
Eloise is 6 yrs old aand is my NT, I think. She was a 34wks premmie, born when Addison was 5 1/2, 3 months before I split with their father. She is also very intelligent, but doesn't show any of Addison's other quirks, believe me, I have been studying her since the day she was born!!! I sometimes worry about her, I think she may have a touch of the OCD as she has told me recently that she keeps trying not to count things like stairs!!!
I will admit that I feel I may be ADHD and definately have some OCD, especially when I am stressed, I also count things, although I don't have to go back if I get distracted mid count!! His Dad (I think) is an Aspie!!!!!

My name is Martha. We live in northern Indiana.
I came her to see if there were others like me going through what I do with my son Adam. Adam is 12. He is my 4th child. He's had different dx. On diagnosed him with Aspergers, another with ADD. The one that said Aspergers also thought I had it too. Adam is alot like me at his age...just more obsessed with guns and stuff. I managed to find ways to cope and I can see he's struggling with it.
Adam struggles with social skills. He desperately wants friends. He can talk to other children, but eventually he starts acting silly and they start teasing him. He tells me he can't seem to help himself. He's very smart, but had a late start in reading. That's put him behind in school. (Wouldn't sit still long enough to learn.) He was catching up, but seems like he doesn't care anymore. I don't know if it's the Aspergers or the age. His brother is 13 and is the same way about school. Very frustrating.
my favorite guilty pleasure is chocolate. I know I'm not supposed to have it, but can't help it. lol
