Mike hurt his thumb and wrist during recess today because of an argument with some other kids. I am not sure how bad it is. I was there and saw it, but I have left him at school for the time being so as not to change his routine and freak him out more. It was swollen from the tip of his thumb to his wrist and the index finger as well. Not hugely swollen but about 2x the size of the other thumb.
I walked in during lunch with Dave's class while I was volunteering. I see Mike with a red face and across from him is the school nurse attendant person (cause they never have real nurses) and the assistant principal. The assistant principal is talking to mike and writing yet ANOTHER citizenship report. GEEZ
I guess some kids were playing kick ball and mike was not part of the game. He ran into the game and kicked the ball away and went to play with the ball. 2 kids from the game chased him and wanted the ball back. Something happened (maybe a kid grabbed him) and Mike grabbed the kid and pushed him to the ground. Then somehow he got hurt. Mike and one of the kids from his class say the other kid punched Mike. The boys say Mike got hit in the hand by the ball. The teacher is supposed to get to the bottom of it. I know Mike was out of control and in the wrong but he shouldn't be the only one getting punished if they threw punches or hurt him on purpose too.
He is going to the doctor at 4 today. I was supposed to go out tonight! DH is trying to make it home to watch the other kids cause I can't find a sitter.
OY!!!!!
PLUS! Mike is horrible for doctors. I haven't been in forever with him (well child check once a year or so) and he has never been for an injury. This is GOING to be very very very ugly.

OH! my goodness Renee. I hope Mike feels better. I agree that all the kids involved must be questioned.
take care,
Anandhi.
OOHHH!! Poor Mike! I hope it's not too serious. Hope he does well at the doctors.

Update,
fortunately by the time I picked him up it looked better. It was still swollen and he wasn't favoring it too much. An hour with electronics and video games and he has figured out how to use it without it hurting to much or to work around it.
Still swollen quite well but I think it is only bruised so I cancelled the doctor. Phew! I have never had to take him for an injury and it was stressing me out! Regular visits and shots are bad enough. He is awful if he is sick. I can just imagine if he had really broken it. we would have had to put him under to cast it most likely.

Update on the update, lol.
Of course I looked at it again and tried to get him to let me bend it. Wellllll that didn't go over so well. I don't think he can bend the knuckle and it is blue/purplish. But it doesn't seem to be bothering him other than he can't button his pants so I am washing some jogging type ones for him (great day to be behind on laundry!)
I will take him tomorrow likely if he still can't bend it.

Poor little guy! I hope he's on the mend soon.

Hate to play devils advocate here but when Kyle broke his arm he barely cried, it never swelled, he slept through the night, and he could move it fine. I took him to the doctor the next day even though everyone thought I was crazy and waisting my time, including me and the doctor/nurses. Oh and I took him shopping before the appointment. They all ate crow and I felt horrible when the x-ray showed it was clearly broken. So, from my experience, I'd take him on the small chance something is broken. I really hope its not, of course.
