OK, I'm gonna brag, alright? He just looked so yummy in a full standard tux!!!
We (Malcolm and I, dh had to work) went to my brother's wedding this weekend in Atlanta, a very last minute thing 'cuz there's a baby happening, but frankly I'm thrilled for them both and I think it was MORE than time they got married, but I digress... ANYWAYS, 3 days ago, bro calls up and asks if Malcolm would like to be junior groomsman and escort my 8 year-old niece, which Malcolm gets all excited about doing. He was really happy that he was gonna be in the SHOW. Of course, he's never been in or even to a wedding, so he really didn't realize how LONG it was going to be.
And it was a real formal one, the long processing, flowers everywhere, ladies in hats and gloves, candles, songs sung by soloist, etc. He stood very well up there for most of it. Then the preacher had to give a homily. Malcolm's legs started moving up and down, well, all 3 kids were wavering a bit from standing so long (6 year old nephew was ringbearer as well). When the soloist started a long, SLOW rendition of "Our Father", Malcolm finally just walked over to the side and sat on a nearby chair! Calmly, looked right at me sitting in the front row, then ... he winked at me! He went back up for the ending and processed out, arm to his cousin, looking spiffy.
We did almost lose him with the photos, though. I requested that all the photos with kids be taken at beginning, that went fine, Malcolm drank an entire bottle of cold water when they told him he could be done and sat down to enjoy a break with his gameboy, which I had promised him as a break/reward. THEN they want a huge both-sides-of-family shot down a long staircase. I made no promises but asked that they let me know when they were ready and I tried a bribe. He went for it, reluctantly.
BUT they took the shot AND THEN THEY WANTED TO MOVE EVERYONE AROUND ON THE STAIRCASE AND TAKE MORE!!
Uh, huh. He kinda yelled, in that going there voice, "NOOO! You said only 1 shot!" Which they had, I'd like to point out. "One more" the photographer says, "NOOOO" says Malcolm.
I quick dashed down the staircase (I was supposed to be in the shot, too, of course) and grabbed his hand and said "That's right, they said only 1 shot, and you are now done. Let's go!" and whisked him up the stairs back to his easy chair and gameboy, where he stayed until half-way through formal dinner. He did come into the dining room lured by promise of warm rolls with butter and piles of blackberries, and sat at family table, ate, drank, chatted with his aunts and Nana, cleaned his plate, and then said "Mom, let's go. I need to be in my bed up in the hotel room."
What a dude. I'm rawther proud of him. And I'll post photos when I can...

Sounds like Malcolm did a fantastic job! And so did you.
You should be proud.
I'd love to see a picture sometime.
You were in Atlanta......and you didn't tell me?????
Loooove your description of the day. Really made me grin (and sympathize with the poor kid)... I was in a few weddings as I kid and I had the same frustrations with the process. I also remember my 8yo brother in my wedding... he's ADHD and was our ring bearer... we had a rather *short* ceremony and he was *still* weaving in and out of the groomsmen like traffic cones before it was all over. :D

Sorry, Dee,
and I would have REALLY loved to get together, meet your boys, be the only one on the board who got to actually pat your belly ...
But this was a sorta high-stress, too many activities, family thing with not much free time and no dh to spell me, although my sibs and mom get along well with Malcolm, which is relaxing. We probably coulda made it work if I had thought of it early enough and set it up, but my head has been swimming for months and months and I am just not my usual sharp-thinking, super-organized self HA.
You are welcome at my place in NYC anytime, even crash in the living room!!!
Malcolm also might have slid down the bannister, very James Bond looking in the tux that would have been--- but the chair and gameboy were actually UP!!!
xoxoxo,
Sara
