Malcolm turned 9!
| Tue, 07-04-2006 - 10:07pm |
Well, it was Sunday! And he suddenly has decided he doesn't WANT to be 9 years old. Several discussions later, the surface reason is that it is an ODD number, he doesn't like them, except he likes the 5s, so age 15 will be OK.
But really, he says he doesn't want to be older. He is scared. Good reason, really. Life is getting too hard as he gets older, he says.
Anyways, we just did lots of fun activities, tons of swimming, basketball, movies, BBQs, making plans for the treehouse, made s'mores, played lots of chess -- he's getting very good.
Anyways, my boy is getting so big!!! sob.

Happy Birthday Malcolm!! Nine is cool because it's a square. He won't get another one of those until he's 16! (Heh, heh, am I geeky or what?)
They do grow up so fast...except my Nathan, who is almost five and still looks three. I'll go into the boys' room after they are asleep, and see David's HUGE feet hanging out the side of the bed. They look like teenager feet!

Dear Evelyn,
yes, HUGE teenager feet, and he is getting so tall and broad in the shoulders. As we walk down the street, the Domenican grownup girls are making smacklng lips at him and raising eyebrows at me, "Ai, mami, he's gonna be some'tin..."
I am SO not ready for this.
Today he is now HAPPY he is 9 because it is closer to being a grownup, live on a boat, marry his sweetheart (who moved back to NYC TODAY), have 2 or 3 kids, fish at night, write children's books and NO MORE SCHOOL.
At least he's happier about being 9.
sigh.

Happy Birthday Malcolm!!!!!!!
I hope he had just a wonderful time. I am sure he did. S'mores. YUM! Can you pass a cyber one this way? They have no calories so I can have one.
I understand the getting big thing. Mike has suddenly sprouted and is beginning to look more like a teen or young man than a child. Last night walking to fireworks I saw him walk by another man and it struck me just how much he is looking like a young man. OYE! I am not READY

Happy Birthday Malcolm! I am glad he is feeling better about his age. My son just turned 4 in April, but every day since then he asks if he is 5 yet bc that is the age you have to be to climb an indoor wall-climbing thing at our local children's museum. Guess the grass is always greener!
I didn't get a chance to tell you how gorgeous Malcolm is, from the photo you posted.
My son's feet are big too, almost as big as mine (although I am petite). He's also about 2/3 my height. Yikes! Wonder what he'll be like at age 9!

Oh, getting older is so hard for our little guys! Duncan just turned 5 a week and a half ago. They do still like being little, but they also want to be big and do all the big things. That's interesting about not liking odd numbers.
Hope he had a fun birthday!
