Malcolm's new trick

Well, I guess this isn't brand new, but with our new schedule dh is in charge of travel to and fro most appts., by bus or subway, and I hadn't seen this. It seems now Malcolm has a new trick when he has to ask for a seat or for someone to let his pass to either get to a seat or a front window in a crowded bus or subway car. First off, he asks VERY nicely "excuse me, may I move past you?" or something similar. OK, now THAT we have practised.

THEN when the person complies (and today it was a much older woman), he says to her emphatically : "Thank you kindly, pretty lady!" And then he pasted a BIG smile on his face right to her. And let's be clear, this lady was not exactly pretty, but she lit all up like a Xmas tree. And I was cracking up quietly under my breath...

I asked dh what he says if it's a man, and apparently he says "Thank you so much. You are a very kind person. You must have alot of friends in life." There are also apparently variations on all this oozing flattery, depending on the situation...

OK, now we have been working on manners in difficult situations for years, but where the #*$^ did all this come from? Dh says he doesn't know either.

Shudderingly, she considers the possibility that life could hold being the mother of a .... politician...

Sara,

The Mayor of New York !! That is very funny it's always nice when they are charmers. Atleast he is polite which is always a good thing. I took the boys today to the children's parade in the village. We had so much fun I had their teachers with us . NYU was hosting and they let the boys go in before any of the festivies began and gave them candy bags. This was our trip of the week!

Oh Sara, this sounds EXACTLY like something our son would say! They can be such "little men" sometimes.

Thanks for sharing~

Ah yes, girls, and soon we may have to back him off a little -- for when he's DOES spy a pretty girl, he really gets a little goofy -- although mostly he does this with girls who are, like 20, who never mind the attention and in fact so far get a kick out of it.

He stops, pops his eyes at them, smiles and there is a definite SWOONING quality to his smile and swivels his head at them as he walks by and says (a little too loudly) -- "She's cu-uute." He did this once to a youngish (9 or 10) girl getting into a cab as we were getting out, and her rather patrician-looking father standing behind her was a tad not amused. Malcolm didn't even NOTICE the father, just stood watching and smiling like he had just met a goddess on earth.

Well, he is still only 9, but tall as a 12 or 13 year old. We really may have to start educating him before he gets in the kinda trouble he certainly WON'T know he could find!!!

What a dude.
