Well I bought my ds some Winnie the Pooh erasers. He brought to school one of the Piglet ones.Older ds comes in from the bus and says you need to go outside and get David.I said why what's up?He said David held the bus up wouldn't get off and was throwing a huge fit outside. So I go outside and soon find out he was angry and throwing a huge fit luckily only destroying an empty water bottle.I talked to him and said he needs to come inside as he was screaming and yelling. All this because he forgot the Piglet eraser at school and he was afraid someone would steel it.So I had him go to his room that didn't work.He tantrum for about 5 min more then something distracted him I think it was a tv show and he was fine.So it was about a 10 min fit over an eraser left at school.
Fast forward too today and he comes running into the house and says look what I remembered its my eraser. He was so happy as was I that he remembered it.He was like a friend of mine wants me to bring all the erasers and I told him no way is he bringing those back to school.
What are some things that you have found help your kiddo when they loses control like that? The best thing that works for David is distraction of some sort and he will sometimes forget what he was anger about.Sometimes even tickling him will help as well.

Stephen has melt downs over his toy bag and his sheet. He has an LL bean bag that he keeps his power ranger zords and a batman sheet in. We drag this bag everywhere we go. There are times when we leave my parents house late, and forget to get the bag. He melts down bigtime, and away we go back to get it. My parents only live 30 minutes away.
We have learned to double check everything to make sure that he has the bag and packed when we leave.

It depends on the situation, but something like that: I would "jolly" him through.
