Well, we got to meet the main classroom aide and were introduced to the head noon duty who is really nice, cait loves, and is there all day. She knows who cait is and what to do if she needs help. I was told by the main aide that part of her job is to go around and check to make sure the kids have gotten where they need to be. She doesn't go with them so that they have independence but a big part of her job is to make sure they are where they are supposed to be.
So here's what we did.
1) Made Cait a color coded schedule showing clearly all the changes and reviewed it with her until she got it down cold. Have made a special labeled pocket on the front of her backpack for her schedule and map.
2) Made a simplified map of the school highlighting all her classrooms.
3) Took her on numerous tours of the school including today when we did a walk through of the whole schedule and she led the way.
4) Came up with social story/scrip of what to do if she gets lost. first, find the noon duty (she will be wearing a big hat), if not her go to her AS class and look for teacher, if she isn't there go to the office and tell them.....
I am still nervous but feeling better. When it was completely empty there today Cait really was good about where to go. She feels ready or so she says, lol, so it is time to let her grow up and try. Prepared her best I could so here's crossing my fingers that thursday won't be too long.

(((HUGS))) and I'll have my fingers crossed for Cait on Thurs. Sounds like she's pretty well set w/ all the practice she got.
Maybe there will be a nice girl or boy in most of her classes that will buddy w/ her and help her stay on track. Warren had this in both the school in WI and last yr here in SC, just a nice kid that was very responsible that he had the phone # for and could ask for notes or assignments-- not exactly a friend but someone that would remind him of which class they were going to and to write his assignments down. This year Warren is supposed to be responsible enough to do this, but is also going to resource for organizational help every other day. Amelia's sixth grade teachers had them all write the name (or 2)& phone # Cait finds some nice kid to help as well as the neat adults she already knows.

Renee, it sounds like you've done an awesome job preparing Cait.
