DD is my only child, so up tll recently I figured most of what she does is normal 5 year old stuff. But now I'm realizing that some of it is out of the scope of normal, and occasionally haveing a hard time figureing out which is which.

The latest one to fall in that question box is the obsessing over a certain want. Two examples.
Yesterday I had pizza for breakfast. She saw the pizza and wanted it. She gets breakfast at school and I offered several other options. There were only two slices and they were mine. I explained to her that I had offered the pizza to her for dinner the night before and she chose to eat something else. She whined, screamed, and cried for the pizza for a good 20 minutes after I was done eating and the whole time I was eating.

Today she really wants to show me a trick using her school supplies. Yesterday she ruined all 4 boxes of crayons for her school supplies, so I'm being very careful with the backpack full of supplies. She is going absolutly nuts about the bag. Even promising to be my best friend.

So my question, is this within the scope of normal 5 year old behavior? And, regardless of its cause, how do I make it stop?

I am hardly an authority on normal. Both my kids have special needs and so do I (ADHD).

I agree with Paula, but I also would like to suggest you hide the back pack out of site when she's asleep or something. Just seeing it everyday is going to help fuel this obsession. Maybe if she wakes, doesn't see it, then she will forget about it enough to give you a break. You can pull it out the night before or the morning of the first day of school.

See if that helps. Thats what I have to do with my boys sometimes and it does help abit.
