Malcolm is doing really, really well these days, gotta say it. He's made some new friends in the neighborhood (on the playground!) and he's had quite a few fun playdates with them. He's also made new friends at his social skills group and this weekend, he went to a birthday party for one of his best buddies, who goes to a new school, and made about 5 friends there!!! He and 7 other guys (2 of his pals) were all sitting around eating pizza and having a lively Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh/TV shows discussion for about a half an hour. This after an hour of swimming.
But mostly, I was impressed, because there were some starts of arguments here and there throughout the party, esp. in the pool with splashing, rough-housing... I saw Malcolm start to get mad, that face and body language. I started to call out to do my warnings and he got quite exasperated at me "MOM!!! You're not HELPING!!!" "FINE!!!" I yelled back. "Take care of it yourself, but no killing anyone or I'm jumping in, clothes and all, to wrestle you out!" He rolled his eyes at me. Later, this happened again, same scenario all the way through, so I backed off again and then just stopped. In fact, there were lots of little moments. Kids rubbing wrong like tinder, and Malcolm's anger rising but he handled it all, OK I could have wished for a bit more aplomb, but really. I guess I have to back off more, my baby's growing up ((little sob))...
This evening he has the video camera out and is creating a TV show with lots of different plastic figures and drawn backdrops, Mr. Camera-Man. He definitely deserves some downtime.

Sounds like you guys had a good day.
Sara, I can SO hear him say that!
Wow, good for Malcolm! how hard that must have been though, I'm sure it just about killed you to sit and be still, hoping for the best, expecting the worst. I'm so glad he did so well in such a overstimulating environment!
LOL! my mom and dad have a home movie from when my brothers and I were in middle school, (my brother is going to have it put on DVD & copied for all of us sometime), it involves a barbie being blown up, GI joes and lots of mud. I hope you're saving some of his work!
