Just a little lovely update, following up my note to Lainie about the waiting on ds :
Tonight my constant admonishments about my NOT wanting to wait hand and foot on a tall, perfectly capable recently-turned-10 young man apparently not only sunk in, but bore some fruit!
Malcolm, who has earlier gotten himself many rounds of food and drink, under protest:
"Mom, are you hungry? Can I get you something?"
"Well, that's sweet honey, but actually I'm not hungry right now. Why do you ask?"
"You are right, Mom (!) I am going to be a grownup someday soon and I will have to take care of myself and my family. Noone will be there to feed me, well, unless I go to a restaurant, of course. Can you teach me how to cook more things? Can I make dinner for you tonight?"
Wow! So, we planned a menu and shopped, cooked together. Now he wants to do this every night.
Love him,
Sara

OMG!
Evelyn,
Well, it does help that we have a biggish kitchen, also I think over the years Malcolm has had many cooking projects in schools so he is not completely unfamiliar. Still, it was amazing watching him carefully dice potatoes.

That is so freakin' sweet! I can't take it!!!! LOL
Yeah Malcolm! And you too Sara! I wish my MIL had done the same for her two boys. My DH is pretty good with the cleaning but totally clueless and nervous about cooking. Thankfully - I tenderly force him to break out of his routine occasionally and he'll pop some chicken in the oven.
Sam loves food, though and I can't wait to show him how to cook. He bakes with me all the time, though.

Hi Sara,
Way to go Malcolm. Evelyn, it feels that way, but they change. Sravan the other day actually did dishes and made his own cheese sandwich. He offered me too, but I am not ready to eat bread slices slapped with cheese in between (LOL!!!).
Good Job mom,
Anandhi
Sara!
