Is it me or is your dx'ed child sicker more often than not?
I haven't be on in a LONG time for various reasons, but my ds is sick 2x a month w/various issues. Constant runny/stuffy nose and a cough that's making me nuts. Been to the doctor too many times to count to hear the same song and dance that's its "normal"?

My dh is making me crazier by trying diagnose this nickle&dime issues w/ different remedies otc and his rx's our ds doctor has given us.

What I'm getting at is your child (our's is 3 btw) sick at least once a month?

Thanks

hi,
Son gets strep 2-3 x a year. It takes 2 prescriptions to clear the infection. (of course dr won't give 2 scripts, they make us come back in so they can look again). He was 3yrs old before he had his first ear infection. When he was being dx'd with Asd, dr asked if the strep infections were at the same time that son had an increase in difficult behavior/outbursts.They thought there might be a connection- there was not. Recently son had 2 serious ear infections and never complained about pain, no fever. We went to drs because he was just off.

Yes, or he used to. He had recurrent strep throat when he was in second grade. As soon as the antibiotic was done (if the first one worked at all) he had strep again with in a week. They decided to take his tonsils/adnoids out after months and months of suffering. It helped for 1 yr then the recurrent strep was back. We do biomedical treatments along with regualr autism therapies. So we decided to try antiviral therapy with him. We used Virastop and other natural antivirals and immune boosters. Some people go with Valtrex. It was not a quick fix but since going through the treatment he hardly gets sick and if he does it only lasts one day! I think changing the diet can really help too.

Actually (knock on wood) my kids are pretty typically unusually healthy for the last few years, though Cait was sick alot as a toddler.

I attribute thier health now to a variety of things but one of the biggest was to let them be sick and using holistic approaches to illness. I stop doing antibiotics unless really really neccessary a couple years ago and they have built some great immunities. I use garlic infused oliveoil for ear infections (works WONDERS and FAST). I use airborne, homeopathics, etc when they are ill and typically it works great and they build immunities.

I also attribute it to thier diet and supps. They get loads of antioxidants and such in thier foods. They eat blueberries by the pound and pomegranate juice, grapefruit juice, organics as much as possible. They also eat foods only if I can read the list of ingredients. Since starting this my kids have had nearly perfect attendance every year. Thier illnesses are shorter and milder and behaviorally they are doing much better.

My two aspies stay sick longer then other kids. Right now my younger one has been sick, lets wee- I missed last SUnday, the Sunday before that and the Sunday before that of church. It's really common for me to only go to church when it's my turn to work in the nursery. :( And we eat very healthy and take vitamins....Allergies are a big deal too.

Well we had his white count tested and was fine. He is on zertec and nasonex each day.
I meet with doctor Monday to perhaps consult allergist or eys-ear-nose-throat specialist for the finality of it all.
I got bad sinus too so it's probably in the genes, husband is at end of his rope, me too

Thanks

I had him tested for siliac's and it came back negative so we don't do the gf side of the diet.
Multi vitamins and that's it.
His PDD is mild so all the treatments you speak of I am not familiar to so I appologize.
He never complains about being sick EVER.
I hate seeing my baby suffer.
He's 3 and started preschool this year and I guess all the germs are just out there spite all the washing of the hands etc. Can't keep him in a bubble.

Thanks

My 6 year old son has allergies, asthma and ezcema. He had a stopped up nose for almost a year it seems and then we put him on Singular and finally got a clear nose. He has eczema that often gets infected and requires antibiodics. Other than these 3 issues (as if it isn't enough) he is usually pretty healthy, meaning he doesn't get the flu, sore throat and that kind of stuff.

They were sick a lot as infants, even tho' they were breastfed. Dd had an ear infection at least once a month from the time she was 1mo. She never cried, ran fever, etc., but we'd go for well-child check-ups and would find she had a raging double ear infection. Similar for ds. Both outgrew ear infections and probably have about average illnesses nowadays. They rarely complain when they are legitimately ill, but they are hyper aware of other discomforts (gas, hangnails, etc) that they'll obsess over.

As was mentioned before, the constant runny nose could be sign of allergies. Same with the cough. My NT (well, probable ADHD) ds has problems with that. Our regulat ped wasn't much help, but we saw an allergist who identified the problem.
