Here is a story that David wrote while he was in school.

I can see something similar coming from Isaac in a few years.

Evelyn,

Excellent story! Gotta love that imagination, composition, narrative and vocabulary.

Yes the subject's a bit bloody, but I seem to remember I went through a period of writing gory stories and/or Killing off my heroes in school. And look how I turned out!

OK. Bad example...

And he's nine????? OMG!!! Can I borrow his writing abilities for some of my school papers??? What a great writer! You may have the next Stephen King living at your house. ;)

I can understand your mixed feelings though. Josh brought home a picture that he drew at shcool--a rainbow (awwww) with tons of bloody guys with X's for eyes laying under it (EWWWWWWW?) I was very worried at first that there was a problem, and that the school would be knocking on my door as well (Josh is a very sweet, quiet kid), but it never happend. He explained to me that the guys were Star Wars men (his obsession). Makes sense to me now. He still comes home with bloody dead guys on drawings here and there. For now I wouldn't worry too much. Sounds like an awesome sci-fi/horror type of work--if he's into sci-fi or something similar I can see where that would be they type of thing he would like to write about. I will also say that like Paula, I too remember going through a phase in which I wrote very gory stories. I would say it began around eight or nine if I recall correctly. I too turned out fine (just don't tell my husband--I have him thinking I'm a loon). :)

Take care,

He has never seen television news in his entire life.

Well you gotta say that kid has an imagination and is quite creative!

We may not be thrilled with the content but he could make a killing writing screenplays for movies and even cartoons that are out now.

Evelyn,

Some how the kids just pick this stuff up by osmosis if that is thier inclination or interest area. My Best friends son is BP and has that weapons/action/killer type obsession going on. She is extremely religous, no TV in house and no movies over G. But somehow he knows more than anyone I know about weapons and all his art is this type as well.

Alot of info he gets at school (he is now 6th grade but it has been forever). Some is his own imagination. Sometimes it is like trying to stop a train. Perhaps directing it toward appropriate outlets such as writing and art will help.

Ok, Evelyn,

That kid of yours is just wild. But I never thought anyone needed to watch TV, 'cuz we never had one when I was a kid (weird Dad) and we used to play some bloody awful war games, etc. We knew all about esx early on, too, although I don't really know how...

I am tempted to have the 9-year-old writer at our house read this, 'cuz he'd probably love that story and laugh alot. He doesn't himself write quite so gory of stuff, but way funny and wacky, yes.
