Grrrr.... I am not happy with one of my children right now.
I'd say this is a guilt story you can save up for when he's grown and you can turn your teardrop wrinkled eyes at him and say, "Remember the purple sweater I knitted for you? I knew you loved purple and hand dyed the yarn myself to a custom color..." Nothing as priceless as a well-aimed guilt story from mom.
There was a scene from "Cheers" many years ago where Diane knitted a sweater for Sam and he got her some impersonal gift. She like spun the yarn herself, customed-dyed the colors, etc. It was so funny.
{{{Evelyn}}} I love seeing your boys pics btw, they look so cute and handsome :).
Well, I know my own boys would do the same thing here.. and I dont just think it would be because they had neurological issues. I just think they didn't like what grandma made them (my mother makes the same things) and they just plain don't like them.
I don't even like what my mother makes for me, but I know as an adult to be polite, and compassionate with her. I don't want to hurt her feelings.
But, I am 42, and have been trained to be an adult. Your son, he is only 5 and is still just a kid. He's not an adult yet..... It will take time for him to learn.
Someone told me of an anolgy (sp?) once, and I loved it.
They said "a baby starts out in the beginning like a book with blank pages. And everyday of their life they fill a page until the book is all finished and they die."
Thats like our kids, they learn, and they grow, and they mature every single day of their life. He probably didn't realize he hurt your feelings, he just wanted to say he didn't like it.
He just didn't know how to be like us, with manners, and sweeteness mixed in..... It takes time. And I don't think he knew how it made you feel. Maybe you can tell him?

Well,
Evelyn,
Sorry about the initial reaction, but I'm glad he ended up liking it. As someone who literally just started learning to knit this past weekend and who just started back crocheting (at a beginning level) recently - I know how you feel! I'd love to see your handiwork when you have a chance. :) I am crocheting a scarf and if the tight gauge gives any indication of the tension in my neck and shoulders - stitches tell all! LOL.
You know, as a kid I always would try to knit or crochet, and for the life of me it never came out right lol. I would love to be artistic and make something that didn't look kinda "funny" at the end lol.
Oh well, it was fun trying....
