My son is a little over 4 years old and diagnosed with PDD-NOS. He doesn't care if he's wet or if he's dirty. I need some ideas on how to potty train - pleeeease.

Well my ds just turned 4 and also could care less about being wet or dirty, so I hope you do get some good advice here. Honestly though, I'm not pushing it too much either. I figure he'll train when he's ready or is motivated enough.....my odler ds did.

Hi,
my son was dx with pdd/nos only last year.he is now nearly 9 years old.when we potty trained him,we went straight to toilet.he was 2/3.we bought him a toilet seat that fits under the lid,so he didn't fall in,a step, wet wipes in a fun box,he had a frog where the wipes came out of his mouth, fun soap,i think his was like a blue foam. But the most important thing we found was he didn't like the thought of anybody hearing him,so we got a bathroom radio, only an off on button and safe to use with wet hands.we only had 1 accident since the nappies were taken off.hope this helps a little.

Tom didn't care if he was wet or dry either. As long as he had a pull-up he'd use it. He still wears one for night time and if I don't nag him he'll still pee and/or poop in it and he's 5.

This is what we did...I took him to the bathroom every 1/2 hour. Lots of praise for trying. We ditched the pull-up for daytime and just hoped for the best. We still had accidents but for some reason wet clothes were worse to him than a wet pull-up. I can only imagine. Ick.

We had a hard time with bowel movements. We finally made a chart and he got a sticker every time and then something special for every 5 bowel movements. Go to the hobby store to play, go to a park just with dad, go to McDonald's, get a new toy (about $5 was our limit), go watch the trains...something like that.

And the teachers at his school were great. They helped alot because they made him go often too. And they didn't care if there were accidents.

Tom wasn't fully totally trained til he was 4 1/2 and we still have accidents when he gets too involved in something really interesting...using the computer, playing trains etc.

I wasn't too worried about it cause I knew he would eventually get it.

Good luck.

Hi Stephanie

My son is almost 4 (will be in July) and also has PDD
He has NO desire to go.
My in-home therepists are coming up with a plan to help me. I have tried it all.
Special underwear ( don't pee on Thomas or don't pee on Lightning McQueen LOL)
I offer rewards, toys---everything but the kitchen sink...........

I DO make him tell me he pooped his pants and need to get clean.
I MAKE him tell me he is wet and it's gross.
I am hopping the repetition will catch on sooner or later.

Hope any of this helps

Nora
