Hi All~

I'm sorry I haven't been posting much lately...haven't felt the hottest. Hopefully I'll be able to kick this sinus bug soon and get back to bothering you ladies on a more frequent basis. :-)

NOW on to the purpose of my post. Claire's 1:1 approached me last fall about doing something at the school to promote Autism Awareness. It's not like I could say "no" to a request like that...so she and I have committed to doing something in April.

The question is...WHAT CAN WE DO??? She's is suggesting T-shirts. Which is good, but will require sponsorships to pay for them. I'd thought about having a sheet of discussion topics for the teachers, but I'm not sure how that would go over. Coloring sheets are an easy project. But I'm not really very good at this stuff, so I'm up for any and all ideas.

Shoot 'em my way.......PLEASE!!!

As a "prize" for fundraising for the local Autism Speaks walk, I was given a really neat book for kids called "The Autism Acceptance Book." It also comes with a teacher's guide.

It is about being a friend to someone with autism and every few pages has a section called "walk in their shoes and see how it feels" where they give a little exercise designed to help NT kids get a feel for sensory difficulties etc. The author is Ellen Sabin and it is from Watering Can Press. Maybe it could give you some ideas. It is very easy to understand and very positive in its approach. I liked it a lot.

Also, I wonder if there is a good video or movie to show? Not sure about what might be age appropriate. I could think of lots of things you could show a parent or teacher group though.

I've seen that book...in fact, Claire's teacher bought a copy of it. Hmmm...wonder how I could turn it into something the whole school could "use". I'll have to think about that.

I'd love a short video, but I've never heard of one.

Thanks for the idea, Katherine!

Okay, so maybe this is a bit of a "bump" but I was wondering...does anybody have any coloring pages? I don't know, maybe even just an outline of the autism ribbon that could be enlarged and colored?

Amy,

I was thinking having them make autism awareness ribbons, but they are a little too young for hot-glue guns et al.

But a large-scale outline print of the ribbon woudl be good, so they can color it in.
