Hi!
As many of you know, last year I requested testing through Henry's school, and his teacher called to inform me that they decided at his S-Team meeting that he didn't need testing because he was doing fine academically.
Over this past summer, I emailed the principal to list his various issues. I asked that she make sure his 2nd grade teacher was made aware of these issues. I also told her that Henry had been refused testing last year, and I wanted to get him the testing. She replied and said that she would make sure he got the right teacher (and he did--thank goodness) and that she would take that email as my formal written letter of request for testing.
School started last Monday. I got a letter on Thursday that said we could have a meeting to discuss testing on Wednesday (which is today!)
I have no idea what to do at the meeting. I don't want them to bully me out of testing. I don't want them to think I'm nuts. Henry's teacher has told me over and over again how good, sweet, and helpful he is. He was having great trouble with his speech over the summer--with stuttering, stammering, looking to the side with that affected, frozen face. Now that school is back, he doesn't seem to be having any trouble with that. He has lots of trouble with fine motor skills--like buttons, zippers. He is not social at all. Whenever he does interact with other children in his class, he annoys them by getting in their faces or saying things that don't make sense. I just don't know what to tell them that I think he needs.
Thanks for any help you can give me at all.
p.s. The meeting is in 2 hours.

Robin,
You are doing the right thing and it sounds like the principal is in your corner, which is good.

They can not deny testing. they can deny services based on testing results (but that's a whole other story and battle). Right now I would ask for a full OT/speech and academic eval. If they try to bully you tell them flat out you're not going away.

Thank you, Paula!
That was what I needed. You were fast, too.
