Thanks, Paula. Yes, my son is 15 now and was dxd with AS in third grade, is also bipolar. We've been through it all and the surprises still come, including lots of good ones. He's our only child. We go back and forth between AS and BP issues - AS with the school, BP medically. We've been very lucky to have good special education support, especially now that he is in high school. He's in a small therapeutic program (public) that provides a reasonable social skills group (group therapy) as well as one-on-one therapy with a social worker, and he has his classes in the high school. Biggest school issue is anxiety - he missed around 12 weeks this past year. Biggest BP issue is depression - we just finished overhauling his meds. But it's summer now, anxiety is less, and meds are stable. It's easier now to relax.
Glad I found this site! It's the most honest I've ever seen.
