New here with questions about diet

Hi, I have enjoyed reading the posts here and have learned a lot from the discussions going on. My husband and I have 2 sons, one of whom is 8 years old and in the process of an extensive evaluation for what looks like will have some outcome on the spectrum (probably PDD-NOS or Aspergers). It's been about a year long process for me to even be ready for this point and my husband is a ways behind me. I have lots of questions, but the most pressing one for me lately is this.
How do you handle diet issues with your child? Matthew has progressively self limited his eating to pizza, hamburgers, grilled or roasted chicken and every processed carbohydrate known to man. Breakfast is a disaster, used to do toaster waffles and muffins or Puffins cereal (at least that was somewhat healthy) -- now we have to fight just to get a few bites of Golden Grahams cereal in and some milk, Lunch is similar -- just a few bites of chicken and maybe some carrots. Dinner is a crap shoot, sometimes he does great and sometimes the promise of a sweet afterwards(I know bad mommy move) is the only way to get some protein in . I've heard a little bit about the wheat and gluten free diets and can't imagine how that would go with him. He is 8, almost 9, 54 inches tall and 60lbs and has gone several days without eating if I try to be more rigid about what he eats (to the point that I had to pick him up at school, because he had gotten too weak to play...) Anyway, whatever help anyone has to offer would be welcome.
Thanks,
Kara

Somewhere in the archives is a great post Paula did with tips for picky eaters. I'll try to find it and bump it up for you and the other new people!

Kara, I found this "how to introduce new foods" thread that I bumped up for you, but still looking for the post Paula did. Maybe she will find it and pop it up. It was so clear with good ideas.

Kara,
Welcome!
I hardly had a chance to visit the board today. I'm glad others have helped out and found some helpful threads for you (thanks Katherine and Evelyn!).

Matthew turns 9 in July too! Right now I am oscillating between wanting an answer to all the testing and not.... but thanks for the support.
