Well I haven't been threw that kind of picking, but if it were my child I would try to put antibiotic lotion on it while he slept and put some more on in the morning while bandidging it up tight Maybe using gauze and Duct tape?).

I know duct tape is pretty extreme, but it might take him so long to pick that the stuff off that the lotion will work its way into the sore by the time he gets it off? Maybe asking for an antibiotic by mouth from the doc?

As for the teeth pulling thing, my kids have there's hanging all the time lol. If they can't pull them out alone, then they can do it. Hubby has offered, at first they say yes, but then back away when they feel scared. Thats okay, they will come out on their own...

If it waere my kid, I would threaten him with gloves and follow through. A pair of winter gloves, with some surgical gloves on top (in case he does actually attempt to pick with the gloves on),

I'd keep cleaning it and putting stuff on it and try to keep his hands busy. I find melaleuca oil is great for sores, etc. A fidget or something similar that can replace the picking behavior when he is doing it. Does it tend to be when he is doing things like watching TV, etc? If you are worried about infection then take him in to the doc, but I am going to bet they will just clean it and bandage it, tell you to do the same and reprimand him for picking which I am SURE is going to work right (sarcasm)

As for the tooth, I know that one. Mike would never let me pull a tooth but always was anxious and obsessed about them when they were like that. If it is hanging it won't take that long to fall out. Just reassure him it will fall out or he can pull it out when he is ready.

Not great answers sorry. This is definitely one of those fun AS things.

The sores are looking better today since he was asleep last night and could not pick at them. I have not caught him picking at them today. The tooth is barely hanging but when he came to me this morning to pull it, he chickened out again. I told him it would just eventually fall out and just to keep wiggling it.

Lets hope today goes better and he will just leave the sores and the tooth alone hehe.

hi,
we had an awful time taking plasters off with our ds.dh bought a spray on plaster in a can.its great,it washes off in the bath.its like a spray skin.it stings a little when you put it on,but no screaming when you need to take it off.and its difficult to pick off.

My suggestion. There is something out there called Geri sleeves. We use it in the Geriatric commuinty when there is a geriatric resident with sensitive/fragile skin and they are prone to skin tears. I am trying to remember the name of the tubing we use, it is almost a cottony/ nylon fabric we cut from a roll....

But any way we might use that stuff instead of gauze to keep bandages/kling gauze in place. G-D I am having a can't rememeber SH!T moment. But another suggestion get an old pair of knee highs and put it over where ever the wounds are on his legs or arms. You can cut out holes for his fingers and toes.
