So, I answered a request via a local ASD support email list for applications for a job as a caregiver to a 17 year old girl for a few hours every Sunday. I was thinking (a) I'd get out of the house and (b) it is extra cash that would pay for Cian's therapeutic riding and (c) did I mention it'd get me outta the house?;)
I ended up chatting to the mom and Dad for 2 hours, lol. Their daughter is considered non-verbal low functioning, but I got it right away she may be non-verbal but she's no dummy, lol. She communicates with sign and a communication touch screen. Very snuggly too. My job is to work on some goals with her as well as do the daily lunch, cleanup etc. For the first few days one of the parents will be with me to support me. For me it's less about the autism as it is about getting to know her personality, manipulations etc.
It's only $10 an hour, with a raise after the first two months (trial period) but like I said it would get me out, get some extra cash and I can start to fill in the old resume again. I went in wishy washy but came out pretty happy with the situation.
I dunno...maybe I'm crazy, lol
