I just got an email from Cait's teacher. They again this year are becoming cold and not doing what needs to be done.

I requested an IEE last year. Today as part of an email I got at the very end a short statement that there is a response to my request for an IEE in cait's folder. I get a feeling they are going to deny the request. The fight begins, yet again.

UGH

I can't believe what you have to go through. It makes me feel very fortunate to live in the school district that we live in. They would probably accomodate almost anything for my dd. I did live in a school district before where it was the opposite (for my oldest dd). Horrible and exhausting experience. We're too old for this, shtuff. They might as well start accomodating you, haven't they learned by now they haven't shaken you yet?

Can I ask what an IEE is? I'm kind of new to this. We actually have our very first IEP meeting next Tuesday.

IEE is independent educational evaluation. Basically when the school district does a lousy or incomplete or wrong eval the parents have the right to request an independent assessment.

Every 3 years kids are reassessed (more often if neccessary). Often the districts try to get away with saying the re-eval is to determine if a child is still eligible. That is malarky. That is one part but also assessment should totally assess a childs needs and figure out where they need help and what to do. There should be interpretations of their tests results (as in trying to pin point where their struggles are and why) as well as recomendations for how to meet thier needs.

As they get older, sometimes districts get lazier. It is like once they reach middle school, well heck they will always be disabled so why should we really fight hard. This is just how they are.

Cait's assessment was thorough as in I made sure all the neccessary evals were done. And I don't really think they are inaccurate. However, the interpretations consist of basically spitting back the numbers that are already listed previously. Some of it make one think things that aren't accurate. For instance Cait scored very poor on self harm. She NEVER self abuses and when teh psych told me it was some obscure thing like she needed alot of cues in bathing or sometimes would throw tantrums.

Next, the test NEVER addressed my academic concerns and actually just stated grades from earlier in the year (begining of a term) when she had B's and A's. No mention that she nearly failed math or that I had academic concerns the entire year. It says there were NO academic concerns.

Last there were no, absolute zilch recomendations made. In the report it even states to refer to the recomendations of which there aren't any!

hope that explains

Evelyn, you are right the fun just never, ever ends.

Sarah, I posted already what an IEE is and kind of put there what they did to piss me off. But here is the deal. The screwed up last year. Cait had a very stressful year and they refused to acknowledge it. It took me the entire year to get them to provide even near the level of support she needed all the while poo pooing me that it was just typical AS stuff. Then getting on Cait's case that she should be more responsible, etc. Caits grades were touch and go all year particularly in math and sceince. She darn near failed the end of the year and should have but they realized they screwed up so gave her lots of "support" at the end of hte year and had her redo projects providing the support they should have in the first place. Then they did this lame assessment.

Cait's academic achievement scores were all over the board. Many had fallen horribly and I was told she had an "off" day. Her psychological eval was LAME. The IQ portion talked about discrepancies but didn't even describe what that meant for Cait. She had loads of trouble on this one assessment that is like the vineland (loads of scores in the poor range) and no explanation behind the scores what so ever. AND NO NO NO recomendations for what to do for any of the concerns.

Already I have concerns about her placement and progress and at her triennial they try to pull rubber stamp crap. Yup she qualifies and lets just keep doing what we are doing because that is working OHHHH so friggen well.

So I ask for an independent assessment and they tell me they have to contact the head of middle school sped, Glenn. Then Glenn sends a message that they won't reply until this school year since I requested it less than 15 days prior to the end of the school year. This year starts and I hear I am supposed to contact Glenn. Well I try the next day and the darn district phones don't work. Then Mike ends up in the hospital and I don't get Glenn's extension until 2 days ago. Yesterday I meet with the teacher and she tells me not to call Glenn but that she will have the new school psych call me. Well the school psych never calls and instead today I get a letter that they feel the last testing is adequate and they are denying my request.

SO YEAH I AM TICKED AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO PAY!!!!!!!!!

Calling my RC coordinator on Monday and getting me a nasty ed consultant me thinks. Then maybe I will hire the advocate with the worst rep in town. There is this one lady who scares the pants off districts because she is always right and takes no prisoners. I had an IEP scheduled for wednesday to deny her OT and I think I am going to cancel and get some big flipping guns.

Don't MESS with MOM

LR, they obviously have not learned yet. See it is all new folks at the middle and high school level so I have to retrain them. Going to look up my compliance complaint stuff. Thinking of filing a complaint with the state.

Oooo, ooo, ooo, Renee, let's go fatigue fashion shopping, I'll have dh fly out and get you in the Lear jet and we can go do 5th Avenue for haute couture fatiques with stiletto boots and Uzi accessories and have the BOEs reimburse us for the neccessary battle outfits (when we win) along with the big gun legal assitance --- YES!!! Paula, wanna go along as fashion consultant?!?!?!

I guess we have to keep those Cabana Boys still on 24 hour-a-day hold for needed backrubs and daiquiris and running to Starbucks, also Uzi-cleaning detail, poor Boys never catch a break, oh well. Good thing those Cabana Boys have, say we say, unlimited stamina...

ROFLMBO!

Sara, Somehow I don't think I will look as good in fashion fatigues and stilletos as you will but heck, Lear jet to NYC sounds fun! Don't seem to have the time currently. I haven't had a single day off since school started. Thank god DH was off last week to watch Mike. I was running daily then a quick trip home to work with Mike on school work and off to some other "thing" mostly school related.
