son(9) cannot relate to issues that don't directly connect to him or what he is familiar with. for example a song came on the radio and he insisted that it belonged to a"men in black" movie. i tried to explain that the song came from the 80's , he was lost. he understands classic and oldies music but could not understand music from 25 yrs ago. if he has not tried an activity then he doesn't understand why people would want to do that activity. if the moon and stars are aligned correctly he will try a new activity. otherwise he will ridicule the people doing the activity. these activities could be riding a motorcycle/atv, travelling to a place they haven't been before, going on a boat, watching a movie that doesn't fit into the history/comedy genre.
on another note i had insight to his thinking this week. son broke our ceramic soap dispenser. he screamed like a banshee. he was not hurt, was not upset that he would get into trouble, not upset that he broke something. he was upset that a soap dispenser belonged in that corner of the sink and now there was not one there. yep a little ocd, i think.

Hugs to you. Sorry about the issues you're facing with your son. Was he thinking of the Men In Black theme song that sampled that older song "Forget me Nots" from the 70s/80s (I'm not sure which). This is definitely an interesting problem you're describing, I wish I had some feedback for you but unfortunately I don't have any experience with this with our son. I can tell you that when he breaks things he absolutely unravels, and we can't pinpoint exactly what it is that bothers him - but that I also had the same problem when I was his age.
Sorry I can't be of more help, just wanted to be a listening ear and maybe clear up your Men In Black song predicament if I'm understanding it correctly. Best wishes. :)
