I don't know if anyone here can relate to this or has even experienced this with their children, but here it goes....

Nathan insists on saving all the boxes that his toys come in. And not just the boxes but any papers/booklets/etc that come with the toy. He doesn't care about the instructions though...you can toss that!! Unless there's something on that paper that catches his eye...then he has to have that too!!!

The other day we had fast food, and his kid's meal came with a toy. Well, I threw all the papers away in the garbage. He went into the garbage, and took them to his room!!! As you can imagine, he has ALOT of boxes and papers in his room!!

He is still giving me grief about throwing away some boxes from xmas time....AND from his birthday!!!

I know that there are few kids here who "keep everything"....like Nathan does....but do any of your kids save the BOXES TOO!?

Yeah, Mike is like that. I can throw away the baggies and such because I have convinced him that it is a safety issue, but the boxes and catalogs - OH YEAH!

I have tried lots of different things but the best thing that works so far is being sneaky honestly. I leave the boxes around for a while, then slowly they move to places where he doesn't really notice them as much and when he really has forgotten about it, it disappears into the trash. If he asks I act dumb "Gee, I don't know where it went". Since he is rather spacey and not very organized it works for us.

We also are working on getting him to separate with stuff but it is a tough go and a meltdown nearly every time or at least some sort of challenge. But slowly it is getting better. Have to keep working on it though. Can you imagine his house as an adult if he does this! Geez!

The "sofa" disappeared while he was at school one day. The new furniture moved in the same day so he hasn't mentioned it. I don't know if he didn't notice or since there was something really awesome in the same spot it was ok but Emily nearly said something and I shut her up REALLY quick by changing the subject and asked her later not to bring it up in front of him. If we do bring it up I know it is going to be a problem.

I can picture it now. Sneaking into his appartment when he is an adult and dumping some of his trash when he isn't looking. OY VEY

Thank goodness I'm not the only one!!!!

I think I might have to do the "gradual" taking away thing too!! I've been dreading to clean out the boys bedrooms...they're just a mess!! We really need to get rid of some toys and do more organizing too!! Ooohh...it's gonna be difficult for Nate!!!

Chase doesn't keep specific things but really odd and out-of-nowhere things. He might find a string on the floor and insist that we put it in a bag and never lose it. When he was really little he used to be obsessed with "pieces of fuzzes" as he called them. You know how material from shirts and upholstery on furniture balls up? Well he used to love that stuff and keep in under the cushion. My presumably NT 6yo daughter loves foil wrappers from candy...especially Christmas and Easter candies. She keeps them in her drawer and, like Renee, they just up and disappear sometimes and she usually doesn't notice. Michelle, you're not alone. Vicky

Yep. Boxes and tape. He loves to tape boxes together to make what looks like nothing. But to him, it's something.

He was over the other night and saw the huge box a car seat came in and kept on asking if we were going to use that, if DS was going to play w/ it, etc. He wanted it. I told him it was going to the garage/trash. I am surprised he left w/o freaking out about it.

Kyle likes to save the boxes from his computer/video games. I throw them out on the (rare) occasion I clean his room. I save the manuals though. They are the only things he reads for enjoyment.

Dave is my box guy. This year after his birthday he asked if he could have big boxes for next years birthday. We had some furniture delivered recently and he was REALLY looking forward to the boxes. There were no boxes but lots of cardboard that he used anyway. I am really surprised I was able to get rid of those without a problem. It took up the entire playroom. We redid our bathroom last year and he still complains that I threw out the box the sink came in.
