Today Cait wanted to use her trade in money for new shoes. Ok, what the heck. Totally reinforced her for such a grown up choice and off to walmart and payless we went. (Had a bunch of errands to do).

Well, we are looking at the shoes and she says "But mom, where are the Vans?". VANS?!?!?!

No knock offs or cheap-o shoes would do. You see EVERYONE wears VANS! ROFLMAO!!!!

So off to the mall we went!

Yep, for the first time ever in her life my daughter insisted on name brand stuff like the other kids have!

I called her dad to ok the more expensive purchase and he was SOOOO ok with it! We were both excited that she actually noticed what the kids are wearing and wants to fit in. AND she was very responsible about it. She used her trade in money to pay her part. I told her since they were more expensive I would put in the usual shoe amount and she had to use her $15 to make up the difference.

She is SOOO proud of herself and her new shoes!

NO KIDDING!

I gotta tell you on the way to the mall I was doing mental calculations. what if they are $100 dollar shoes? Can I afford that? What happens when EMILY figures out I spent that on cait's shoes?

Thank GOD they were $40 which isn't horrible for shoes. She was able to make up the difference with her trade-n money which totally took care of all those problems.

That is so awesome. Almost felt like a typical teenager.

wooohoooo! go Cait! I have a teenage NT DD-- and spent the afternoon at the mall w/ her yesterday-- you could be in for a much thinner wallet! Amelia actually begged (didn't get) for a strappy camisole w/ a tshirt underneath w/ a price tag of $55 total. She's really feeling the 'brand' pressure from her peers and many friends. somethings are a blessing about asd!

Renee, Cait is in middle school & girls esp. start noticing what other kids wear. Sarah didn't care what she wore until 7th or 8th gr. She started to notice all the labels that kids wore. She came home & asked for Converse shoes. My dd is a bit of a shoe-aholic like me. Clothes sizes change but shoe sizes stay the same LOL. She also likes Vans. You just wait... it only escalates from here. Good luck, Mary Ann
