Arggghh!
DH, picked Sam (6, AS) up from school today to hear, "oh, today was a bad day, he bit a child and poked him in the eye at recess. You should talk to him on the way home."
What does Sam say?!?! "He was trying to choke me and I didn't want to hurt him but didn't know what else to do."
Apparently the boy asked Sam to play CHOKE tag but Sam though he said JOKE tag and then proceeded to grab Sam around the neck and drag him. Sam says that they didn't believe him and he isn't good at lying even if he did lie......we'd be able to tell.
I am soooo mad. I'm not sure if the other boy got a consequense or not, but Sam has Stop and Think for 3 days. That means he looses one of his recesses (he gets 2 a day) and goes to a special room instead. If they're going to give him Social lessons or something that'll actually help him at that time then fine, but other wise what's the point?!?!!?
What else should he have done? Scream for help at one of the attendants who aren't paying attention?!?!
I am so sick of this. They know he has a hard time at recess. I can't wait to get to the next Team meeting.......I'm soooo ready for a serious (but tactful and pleasant ;) fight!!!!

Oh Chrystee,
I am ssooooo sorry. Sending hugs for you and Sam. I would call a meeting right away and deal with this recess issue, particularly since it seems consistant that he has trouble on the playground. I would also ask for a meeting with the principal about the consequence and talk to him/her about this incident or at least a phone call about it.

ok, I'd call the meeting now and have at them! geez! Hope you set them straight-- that kid needs to be stopped, and I'm not talking about your son! and THEY need to have someone watching the kids that actually pays attention!

Got my meeting notification today actually :) I sent a letter last week requesting one because the day after Halloween wasn't a great one for Sam at school and it's obvious his IEP needs some specific instructions for helping him deal with stress and discipline ideas that will actually help him. He's been *very* manageable at home lately of course.
I did talk to the vice principal this morning. Sam said that he has 3 Stop and Thinks, but she never recieved the paper work for it. If she does she'll see who the teacher was that sent him to the office (his teacher was absent yesterday.) The teacher never even asked Sam what happened and it sounds like she pretty much told him to shut up and didn't want to hear what he had to say. Or that was Sam's impression of it anyway.
Ah, for someone who hates confrontation this is certainly a crash course on it!!!
