Max likes to push buttons, and I have noticed he does it ALOT, he likes books with buttons and he has a fire engine and an activity table, he doesn't do it for hours or even 10 minutes at a time and he doesn't do it with the same btton i.e he pushes all the buttons, is this just normal baby discovery or is it something to worry about, sometimes I think I overanalyse, if I take the toy off him he doesn't worry just finds something else to play with. He also seems to bounce his arms up and down alot, what does hand flapping look like or is it individual to each child. Sorry for the questions, and thankyou

Actually that is why they have those big buttons on baby toys. At this age they are learning cause and effect. Thier action (pushing the buttons) causes the desired effect as such they push it over and over to check it out. Totally developmentally normal for a 1 year old. My 11 yo daughter had no interest in the buttons at that age. I tried over and over to show her how and she didn't even watch and had no clue how to play with them. But at 1 1/2 she would look at the same book over and over if it had letters. I have video of her looking at a letter book on christmas for probably about an hour and mostly it was the one page with all the letters written across it in big block letters. Pointing to certain ones over and over and saying something (I couldn't tell if it was the letter name or asking what the letter was)

Now if he was obsessing on the same button, went looking for buttons everywhere (including light switches and oven buttons) to the exclusion of everything else, or screamed when you took it away or went into a unredirectable tantrum, then I would worry.

This is like tipping water over in the tub. They are learning. Now when my 9 yo does that same water play and splashes it all over the bathroom and gets the whole bathroom soaked, then it is an issue. But at 1 it is totally normal exploration.
