I am not familiar with supplimentation and I am wondering why everyone gives their children omega 3's? What is the benefit to them and should I start giving them to my 15 month old?
Thanks

I'm not an expert.... but I believe they are good for brain development (and there is anecdotal evidence that they can improve speech.)

There was a study done on bipolar adults which showed it's effectiveness even when meds were not for a good percentage. That is the one actual double blind study done. There is implications as well that omega 3's may be beneficial for other neurological type problems like autism, ADHD, etc. I have even noticed it's affect on me with mood and such particularly around that time of month.

For a 15 month old it would be tough to give a pill but give him foods high in a variety of essential fatty acids like omega's 3,6 and 9 would be a good idea for brain development. There are also omega supplements for small kids by nordic naturals.
