I have been informed today that Mike's 1:1 will NOT be returning to the district. I was led to believe she was fired. Don't know the details.
They want me to consider switching him to the NPS now and put him in the middle school class there now rather than next year.
This is killing me. He loves his teacher and his class. Another change is going to be hard but already today his behavior is taking a dive without his regular 1:1 with him. They are looking for a sub for him but you know that. He will likely have a different one all the time and who knows if it will even be a decent aide.
My initial gut reaction is I want him to stay where he is and graduate from 5th grade then move on to middle school. But I can't afford for him to regress behaviorally because the NPS may not take him if he does. Plus the fabulous principal that is there is retiring this year and it may be a plus for him to transition there while she is still principal.
UGH. Great timing. Just when you think you have everything planned crap happens.

Holy cow, Renee! That's scary as all get out. If something were to happen to Claire's 1:1, we'd have monster issues. She'd never survive having a bunch of sustitutes and never knowing who was going to be helping her at any given time. And if our district, getting an even remotely decent 1:1 qualifies as "mission impossible".
Any chance Mike can help make this decision? I think you're right about having him "in place" prior to the principal retiring...once a new person comes in, there's no guarantee that he/she will carry out the plan. But I certainly understand about wanting him to graduate from 5th grade, etc. It's a tough call.
GL to both of you!
Amy
For the love of pete!!!
Renee, I'm stunned! I know they don't really have to but don't you wish they'd have to talk to you first before they fired her.
I'm sorry this is happening. What a tough decision.
