Well, when it rains it FRIGGIN" BUCKETS!
Today I find out Cian's preschool (small, private was actually starting to work out despite some early misgivings due to the low enrollment) is closing its doors...as in today,...not opening tomorrow....or EVER! They are going to refund me the remaining month's tuition. Now here I am with a 4 year odl getting evaluated for Aspergers, and I swear to you there are no part time programs anywhere around me, let alone one that will deal with his delays appropriately. They are all giant daycares, and their part time programs are still $100 a week.
Arrrghghghgh-what do I do? I actually turned down a GA pre-K spot (which is FREE...duh) to send Cian to this other preschol as I thought it would be better for him. Now I'm up the creek without a paddle. I am looking all over but there is nothing reasonable near me.
I would happily homeschool him this year but he desperately needs the structure and socialisation. I haven't told Cian yet; actually he's so oblivious to things like this, he may not really notice.
What an f'n week!!!!

Is there a headstart program near you? The headstart here is always fighting hard to get kiddos that need IFSP's or IEP's. The head start here also works really well with kiddos that need help. Not all head starts are created equal, but it's a thought on something to look into if you haven't yet. Head start often has "community spots" for families that are over income. The cost is usually reasonable in relation to other area programs.
Beyond that I'm not much help. Emma's preschool has been far from perfect, but it's been the best in the area for her. . and the cheepest. I called two preschools, visited both and started her at this one all in one day. I got really lucky.
awww, geez! you can't catch a break these days! Is there any possibility of begging the preK to take him even though you turned it down? I know here in SC they don't actually fill the special needs preschool at our building because they often have kiddos that come in mid year due to new Dx and new evals.
not much help but (((HUGS)))

Have you had him evaluated by your county? Max qualified in our county under social, emotional, and behavioral issues. He started in special needs pre-K mid-year and it worked out great and it was free!
Good luck!

Dee,
I agree with Betsy, Call the public preschool with a big sob-story and try to get them to squeeze him in.

I'm going to talk to his IEP holder (preschool spec ed teacher) on Monday, and see what are our options. The only prob with getting the GA pre-K program is they farm it out to daycares, and they stop at 20 kids, no exceptions-ie: all maxed out with waiting lists as it is. At this point I'm willing to homeschool (kinda) with as many play dates and group activities I can add in. Then get him into a GA pre-K in Fall '08, hopefully one in the school I work at or a daycare right next door. Thanks for all the advice gals.
