DD last night!!! DD is PDD-NOs with a pretty significant language delay. she will be 4 in February but has made a lot of progress in the last year..
so yesterday we are hanging out in the family room and she comes up to me and has in her hand a yogurt. So the CONVERSATION went like this
DD- Yogurt?
D - no DD, you can not have a yogurt for snack.
DD - Yogurt??
D - No, DD, give it to me.
DD- Mine!
D- no, DD, its mine!
DD- Not yours! mine.
D- DD, you can not have a yogurt. if you want a snack you can have popcorn or something else but not yogurt.
DD- Okay...popcorn! She then hands me the yogurt
About 2 minutes later I realised we'd actually had conversation...i think I slept smiling.....

Diva,
Wow!
real interaction,
real bargaining,
real compromise,
real agreement
...really awesome!
May it be the first of many....

That's sweet. I remember waiting until my son could talk to me. He had significant delays until age 4. By age 5, he was one year delayed. He's almost 8 now and uses language inappropriately a lot, but there are actual conversations happening now.
A couple of nights ago, we had a conversation like a NT 8-yr-old. It has a natural flow of ideas that moved logically through a series of related topics. Not an abrupt change of topic on his part, not him talking at me. But, a real give-and-take conversation. I feel like I'm really getting to know him as he talks more and more.
How awesome - that is amazing progress - you should be proud!!!
