sigh,
I had Warren's IEP today. He's 15 & at the end of his 9th grade year. Dx Add-nos, but borderline Aspie. Brilliant, tests incredibly well. Does not turn in homework. I had one teacher today say that until he becomes motivated he'll not do anything well. I wanted to scream! The kid does the homework (when he doesn't lose it) he works his tail off, just doesnt' think to turn it in, or forgets his name on the paper, etc. He is either afraid to ask for help, or it doesn't actually occur to him that he can or should ask for help. He doesnt' realize how much turning in homework helps your grade. He doesn't sign up for academic assistance until I force the issue and become the nag. He waits until I get confirmation from a teacher (usually an email) saying he hasn't turned anything in in x amount of time or that he's failing, then he scrambles to put out the fires. he shares NOTHING about school with us unless we force the issue. I have 1 teacher that will email me weekly, the rest wait until he's failing miserably before letting us know.
He has no friends in the classes, tho lots of kids talk to him and are happy to see him. He is happy, as long as he has his books and can learn and do as he wants.
We're changing his placement from itinerant back to resource. He'll go to resource for a whole class period every other day next year. He'll be placed w/ other kids that are high functioning (probably 1/2 ADD, 1/2 aspie) who are in the same grade level and have the same teachers. The resource teacher can even take the homework and turn it in for the students (which would be 1/2 the battle for him) or they can arrange for the students to email their work to their teachers. He will have to drop a couple of electives he really wanted, so I'm prepared to have a sulky teen for awhile.
Weston's transition IEP (asd, 10 yrs old, rising 6th grader) is next week-- got rescheduled due to the placement person being out sick. Martha's meeting to decide her placement (probably move her to an IEP) is in a week and 1/2. I'm going to try to push that one out a bit as we're having her tested privately (dyslexia) in June. I'm going to be brainfried before the next week is up.

Yes you will be brain fried, poor thing. One IEP at a time I tell you! Cait's annual was a couple weeks back and Mike's transition is in a week or so. A little better of a spread. Not having one for Dave until next year at least.
Sounds like Cait and Warren have some of the same teachers. Can we beat them now please?
Renee (who is picking up Cait early for the ortho today which is cool cause she "lost" fun friday because of the homework issue)

Good luck Betsy!
Hi Denise!
I'm trying to remember, is J now old enough for school district preschool? Remember, you know him best. You are his best advocate. You'll do great!
