Yesterday I received Emma's ASDS from the psych. with the score. She scored Very Likely (duh!). I called the insurance and said, "Now what." They referred me to a psychatrist that "specializes in Autism." I've googled her, but can't find any information on her. I scheduled an appointment for the first week of October (the first open appointment she has) and we'll see.
Has anyone gone this route toward diagnosis? And if so, what might I expect as far as a timeline and number of sessions? The receptionist didn't ask for any information about why I'm bringing my daughter, just how I chose this dr. So she didn't give me any information on how many sessions and what to bring.
Thoughts?
Thank you all for the support and information.

My son was diagnosed by a Neuropsychologist. He was given a battery of tests and she initially diagnosed PDD-Nos (with strong Asperger traits). After continuing to see him in psychotherapy, she upgraded the diagnosis to Asperger's. She only spent one four hour session testing him and we received the diagnosis a few weeks later. She wrote a wonderful in-depth evaluation report that we were able to bring to the school to force them to provide him with services. When you get there, they give you a questionnaire for you and spouse to fill out separately. This data is used to make the diagnosis. We made a list of all of the traits and behaviors we have seen. Because my son had so many behavior problems in school, I got a summary from each of his previous teachers detailing behavior that they had witnessed in class. She used all this in helping make her diagnosis. Hope this helps.
