There is a piece on Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I have this disorder (nothing to the extend of that guy on the website).

Paula, I watched this show and it was such an interesting show! It was interesting how Gary's skin stretching didn't cause pain, but by the same token, he and other EDS sufferers had incredibly painful joints. Gary even had to use morphine patches. I can only imagine the pain. I know my situation (not EDS) makes it feel like I have bone grinding on bone at times so I can get only a small idea. That's just one spot on me though, but to suffer all the joints has to be horrible.
There were several other interesting segments. One was on I think it was termed "disembarkment disorder". One young lady went on a cruise on her family and after the cruise ended and she got off the boat, she continued to feel like she was on the boat. It was like her brain permanently adapted to the motion. It basically altered their lives. The young lady said the words moved on the paper so she didn't read much anymore. Another woman experienced this disorder after an airplane ride. They both felt better when their body was in motion to match the motion the brain perceived. It did make me wonder if there was something to that, why my kids would rock and such. I know my dh had trouble reading as a child, said the words moved on the paper. I wonder if these are milder related instances of what these women had?
Back to the main topic...the people with EDS looked like they were suffering. It helped give me an idea of how this affects their daily lives. One young man was only 19 and I felt so badly for him. They showed him sitting in his room because he couldn't go to school. He basically said most kids think it's a dream not to go to school, but they have no idea how lucky they are to go to school.
We miss you on the board. I hope you get back to us very soon.
OOO yeah I love that show.
