Outta there!

So ESY is over. Dh and I are calling programs, including the Day Treatment programs. We have put BOE off until we get back in Sept., much to school's chagrin. We meet the lawyers end of month and then we can start really planning. The plan is to go for tutoring and home services until appropriate placement is determined, as long as that takes!

Of course all the schools we would even remotely consider are full up, but are willing to talk with us towards the future, ASD school is full too, although they want to do anything they can to help. One Day Treatment program already told us they are not appropriate for Malcolm based on long phone call. Others we have to set up appts. to start meeting, touring, etc. when we get back. Several schools we have not even reached anyone yet and here comes Aug., when noone answers their phones. And the BOE just figured out that they DID lose (or forget to write...) his IEP with THIS school on it, I've only been calling for over 2 months to try and get them to find it!!! Augh.

And in a conversation with school asst. principal today, I saw doubt in his eyes and question in his voice that they were making the right move. He had recently had a long clarity-filled conversation with Malcolm about his difficulties at school, usually ass't principal is not in classroom at all anymore as he is doing admissions... And so of course he remembered why he likes Malcolm. Idiots!!! He still thinks one of the other Day Treatment programs might really help, we will look...

Malcolm was actually sad today leaving. That poor kid, never a home school for him. My sister sent him a T-Shirt today that says ENOUGH WITH THE LEARNING ALREADY! He laughed out loud hard. He is excited to leave for Vineyard and Theatre Camp tomorrow and camping out and going to the beach, should be fun. I won't be on line for awhile, staying at campgrounds in tent and all, so everyone be well. Back in Sept.

One of my friends calls every day for updates, she says my life is MUCH more interesting than hers. Sigh.

Have fun on your vacation! You guys deserve it. Hopefully you can spend it without worrying too much about all this school stuff. Sounds like you have a good plan and there really isn't anything you could do about it this month anyway even if you were here. Like you said, August, no one answers phones. For us that is July because they finish ESY in the beginning of July and go back mid august.

Relax, enjoy. I love the vineyard. Haven't been there in years (obviously) but used to go there fairly regularly when we lived back there at least for day trips. Gotta love an island where you don't need a car and can bike from one end to the other.
