Good points Renee,
I don't see this in terms of blame attribution. I firmly believe that all 'disabilities' come with gifts, which can sometimes vary in usefulness around NTs, but should not be discounted: In our house we have:
Fabulosity in Math and Science (Peter),
An ability to work all gadgets and fiddly things from an early age (Siobhan)
Multitasking abilities that could make a Cray cry (Paula)
The ability to mimic anybody's walk after seeing it one time (DH!) -OK he is real smart at Math too (just as well, because Peter could never come to me for help on the subject)
The trick is to maximise the gifts and minimise/address the challenges.
I was also curious about the Adult DX question because most of us *are* functioning in the world. We have figured out a way to muddle through. By sharing this, we can generate hope for our kids future and maybe some ideas around the whole maximizing/minimizing thing for them going forward.
AND...
No-one has yet said both parents are NT.... Itn't that interesting? And inspiring!

Absolutely. Not saying my kids are geniuses, but I do think Einstein and Edison were on the spectrum, and they changed the world. All manner of advances have been made by people who were on the spectrum. I think surgeons would be paralyzed if they couldn't dissociate from the patient on the table and think of them as somewhat of an object. I remember that whenever I get scared about the kids' future. Maybe they have a little harder time adapting, but with a lot of help they will do just fine, I think.
