Took Dave to the neuro today. He had a couple staring spells over the last few weeks. Last one last Sunday at sunday school. He was nonresponsive for a bit. He also has a history of regressions (total loss of language types starting at 20 months old that would last a week or so) that he has had an EEG for in the past.

So the neuro thinks that he is having petit mal seizures. Have to take him for another EEG and keep watch. If he has another episode or if the EEG turns up abnormal they will consider him as having epilepsy and start on AED's (anti-epileptic medication). Course couldn't schedule an EEG until Mid May but we are on the cancelation list and most likely will get to go before.

Well, here we go again.

Dear Renee,

Chelsea said everything I am feeling for you. I will keep all of you in my prayers. You are so strong and such an amazing person, but now with this new concern, I know it must be hard and stressful. I hope you will be able to get into the doc earlier than May. We have had to do the EEG thing a couple of times too, so I know where you are coming from there.

Take care and sending you hugs and positive thoughts for Dave too.

Oy vey,

Oh crap.

Renee,

I'm sorry. that whole EEG thing is a drag, but it's a good thing you caught it. The seizures if any, sound mild, and you know Cait responds to AEDs, so hopefully treatment -if needed, will be rlatively straightforward.

Sorry this news had to come at this TOY. Happy Easter, what?

thank you all. This will be his second EEG and our fifth as a family. She only scheduled a 1 hour one so that means sleep deprived. I hate that part. Up until midnight then up again at 4 am and I can't give him his ritalin and I can't let him sleep. YUCK. Hopefully we don't have to wait for the may one. that one isn't until 3pm. I have no idea how on earth I will make it through a day until 3pm with him having little sleep, me having little sleep and no ritalin.

Whine, whine, whine, There I will start now. lol.

As for the AED's. Actually I am not sure that they worked really. Her EEG is still abnormal and they still won't rule out epileptic aphasia which started this whole thing in the first place. She hasn't had any more sensory seizure symptoms for a year(for cait it was numbness in the face things like that but we were unsure if that was real seizures or not). So I guess we are ruling out actual seizures for her, but not some sort of landau kleffner variant (epileptic aphasia). The AED's didn't clear that up and really other than steroids there is nothing else we can do for it. Since her language stays within normal limits it isn't worth doing the steroid treatment. But it is possibly the reason for all her language delays/differences in the first place. Wish I would have caught those younger.

Oh well. whine whine whine, there I do it again. LOL

Renee,

Just wanted to give you some hugs. We dealt with fever induced seizures with Tyler, when he was little. He was on seizure meds for a year. But luckily, these seizures were the kind that he outgrew. We didn't know for sure what we were dealing with at first, because he just kept having seizures, that's why the dr's put him on some meds. We did the tests too. And I was relieved to learn that he was ok.

Anyway, just passing on some hugs.

Michelle,

febrile seizures are scary, especially for newer moms. I will never forget about 8 years ago my nextdoor neighbor had a home daycare. I used to go and hang out with her often over there. One day in summer (not a terribly hot day) we were outside with her kids one of those little kiddie pools. One of the little girls had a cold and a low grade fever and the mom was on her way to pick her up. The girls fever spiked and she seized out there, only she began to choke too and stopped breathing.

I was thanking god I knew CPR. Actually one of the 2 times in my life I had to use CPR and thankfully this time it worked. She was diagnosed with febrile seizures too. I think after a bit she was able to go off seizure meds too. A moment I will never forget.

Oh, sweetie! I hope not. But at least you know, from Cait, this can possibly be outgrown. I hope, though, he doesn't have to go down that road!

PS Steve and Liam have FHC at mass tonight!

SIO!
Tell them CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! for me. Why on earth didn't you post that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a dear friend who has been in RCIA for 6 years. Our past priest wasn't helpful in getting her husbands 1st marriage annulled. But week after week for 6 years there she was in the front row. Tonight is finally her night too. She is so excited.

Have fun at the 2 1/2 hour mass. LOLOL. I want to see DeAnn tonight but DH wants nothing to do with easter vigil.

Good for her!!!

It was great for Steve. Poor Liam really struggled, though. He got sleepier and sleepier. It took all his self control not to fall asleep. Also, the priest forgot, so when we went up there, he just sort of looked at us. Finally he "got" it and gave him communion. Poor Liam could not stay awake one more minute, so he did not stand until the host and wine were off the alter, he went back to his seat, pulled me down, and put his head in my lap! I let him. Most "earned" FHC of the night!

I did pray for David!
