Robin,

here is a link http://www.adhd.com.au/PANDAS.htm

I found a bunch more but this was the most readable.

Don't forget to ask something about ST.

Thanks for that info.

I googled PANDAS last night, but I didn't find a site that was as easy to read as that one.

I got an appointment for Henry for this afternoon to get a strep test.

Robin, I think I missed the post that started this. Paula, I wanted to tell you all that I am sorry I had not posted about PANDAS before, I did not know it was something people had not heard about, but Eric is living proof of this.

Last year, Eric had a very bad rotovirus and also strep, at the same time. A few months after, he started with very bad and uncharacteristic OCD behavior. Not at all like him, much worse. I didn't really put two and two together, though I had gone to a talk by a Harvard GI on this topic and more(Dr. Tim Buie, also DAN!, if you want to look him up. Interesting stuff, to me at least w/my little GI problem-prone buddy!). Anyway, I thought the OCD was due to all kinds of things, post-trauma from the hurricane maybe, also genetic reasons.

But it got so bad Eric's neuro was suggesting meds. We hesitated and neuro referred us to a neuropsych who said, don't try meds until you rule out PANDAS and GI trouble. Guess what, Eric had both. Once we cleared the PANDAS up, the OCD stopped, at least the really bad stuff that he had not done before (he has a tendancy this way naturally). That is also the reason we took Eric to a GI who told us that things like constipation can cause neurological symptoms. She said a problem in older people in nursing homes is differentiating between real neuro troubles (like Alzheimer's) and problems brought on by constipating diets that can cause neuro side-effects. Who knew?

Anyway, DO check out the Pandas thing. I worry that it may come back, it might, especially if he gets another infection, as children do, but at least we know about this now.

Renee, great information on that site you posted. Easy to understand and good.

There was no original post. We were talking about it in chat on Thursday. Robin mentioned that Henry had alot of strep infections and how she determined that he had strep was because of behavior changes. So I had thought of it.

When we were going through the diagnostic process years ago and one of the first diagnosis mentioned for Mike was OCD and someone mentioned that to me and I hadn't forgotten it.
