Nathan's hair has reached the point where I just had to intervene. So, I sat him in front of the the computer (distraction) and began to chop away.

I don't do precision work; I just want to see his eyebrows and ears, and the basic shape of his head (he is SOOOO cute it's unbelievable!) Well, there I was, snipping hair from around his left ear, snip, snip, *SNIP*. OMG!! That last snip felt *different*.

I snipped my sweet little boy's ear!!! He didn't flinch or utter a sound. I realized what I had done, and did a lot of apologizing while I grabbed a cloth, and he said, with tears in his eyes, "I'm all right." Then it began to hurt. Poor little guy. It wasn't a huge cut, but it was enough. There was plenty of blood, and I swear, I can still FEEL that *snip*. Ugh!

I hope I'll be able to cut his hair again someday, or he'll let a professional do it.

Evelyn

BTW know this doesn't REALLY make me a bad mommy. I'd be a bad mommy if I didn't care, or worse, if I did it on purpose.

Tell Nathan Kyle knows just how he feels. Kyle had his ear snipped twice by the same stylist. We decided to go else wear after that even though she gave the best hair cuts otherwise. Well last week we went back to that salon because she was no longer there. The new girl cut his ear with the clippers! Kyle told her not to worry about it cause he was getting used to it!! lol, poor kid. Anyway, my point is don't feel bad, even the proffesionals do it.

Yup, I've done it too. but with buzzers. Supposedly, you can't cut someone with buzzers, right? We have a pretty good pair, not the best, but good. I was cutting around Sam's ears. He hates scissors for this, so I thought I'd try the buzzers. If you hold them upright, you can use the point to be precise and not cut the skin......but I did. He was complaining that it hurt, and I said, " I can't cut you with these Sam....see" and I put my finger on them. But them I looked down and I did cut him!!!!

He actually let me try again next hair cut. And I made sure that I didn't press at all and just got the hair, but somehow I nicked him again!!! So we're back to scissors around the ears and alot of reassurance. He wants to grow his hair so he can put it in a pony tail like a Samurai......which is fine with me. We've told him that he'll have to brush it (which he doesn't like much) and it will take longer to rinse (he also doesn't like but has gotten used to.) He's decided it's worth the trouble.

The only thing that helped distract him was cutting his hair in the living room in front of the tv. Now with his hair longer and really short trimming sessions, we can do it in the bathroom. The longer hair is farther away from his skin/scalp so I can hold it up and he isn't so freaked about getting cut. He gets really sweaty, but swears he wants it long.

Ohhhh, poor little guy. And he was sooooo brave! Don't feel bad, you didn't do it on purpose. But OH! I can imagine about you still "feeling" that cut. I got my husband one time so I know just what you mean (although I didn't get him enough to make him bleed, but by his reaction you'd have thought I cut off his entire ear! And he's a grown man!).

It is so funny, someone else took their child to the dentist and so did I. Now I read your post and I just this morning cut Duncan's hair. He was moving around so much I was scared one of us was going to get cut, but thankfully we didn't.

I also nicked Duncan once with the clippers. He didn't freak out or anything, but he was really wary of them for awhile. I've decided the boys look better with a little more hair, so I don't use the clippers much now.

Geesh, the simplest things can be so complicated!

OMg I have done this to D.J. with clippers so many times. But seems that even though he wants it cut he can't sit still and it's hard to cut his hair with him rocking all of the time

Evelyn,
Don't feel so bad! I always cut the kids hair because I just wouldn't put anyone through the torture of doing it at a salon. I'm not exactly the most coordinated person and I have nicked Jake a couple of times not too badly but enough for me to start hoping long hair on boys because fashionable again(LOL)

I have had to cut Adam's hair for almost 2 years now. He got the Beatles look now and I guess I'll give it alitle more time. My dh loves the longer hair on him. Guess he would since his dad had a ponytail!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: It's been about a week and a half since the big snip, and...UGH....I CAN'T GET THE BANDAID OFF!!!

We put on a sport band-aid, one with water non-soluable adhesive. Olive oil seems to work on that kind of adhesive, but Nathan won't let me put it on his ear. I'm serious, he puts up a mighty big fight. DH insists that the wound will heal under there and it'll be fine, but I can't help thinking it would be better without the same band-aid for two weeks. If I try to peel it off, Nathan freaks out big time, and I can only guess how much real pain is involved. Earlobes are pretty floppy, so I'm afraid that the act of peeling the band-aid off will make the injury worse.

If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it. Nathan says he'll just run up and down the stairs to jiggle the band-aid loose!

Evelyn,

What is Natan's objections to olive oil?
