my three year old son was just diagnosed with pdd and the major behavioral problem we can't seem to handle lately is his playing with his privates and poop playing. He can't be left alon for a minuite or he will grap his poop from the side of his onsie and mush it in his hand or paint himself or his toys, room.... Any suggestions to address this problem?

Hi there! Just a super-quick thought. This sounds like a sensory issue to me, so you might want to think about giving him more tactile sensory input -- play-doh, playing with shaving cream, sand play, finger painting, a squish ball he can carry around with him, lots of things like that to occupy his hands and give him the sensory input he's craving. Does your son receive OT? If so, make sure his therapist knows about the poop playing. He/she will be able to come up with lots of activities to give him sensory input and hopefully help redirect his sensory needs in a more appropriate place.

I'm sure others will have great suggestions, too, but I hope that's a little bit helpful!

i agree its sensory. When DD did this (thankfully not for a very long time) we pinned her clothes, put her diaper on backwards and generally made it difficult for her to get in her clothes, and we checked her diaper like every hour! Also, squishy stuff to play with, like play doh etc.... and finger painting gave her the same sensations without the yuck factor. that and keep lots of clorox wipes around.....

good luck!
