PE troubles

PE has always been a trouble spot for Kyle. We tried to get adaptive PE for him but only could muster an Adaptive PE consult for the PE teacher 4 times a yr. We had hoped this yr would be better because he has a new PE teacher who runs an adaptive PE class in another building. So he should be familiar with AS and motor delays. Well the yr started out OK but has been going down hill fast. Before Christmas break he got hurt in PE and I had to pick him up from school and take him for an x-ray. Thankfully nothing was broken. Then after break he was hit in the face with a ball. The aide took him to the eye doctor to get his glasses fixed. Then yesterday he was hit in the stomach or privates, depending on who the story comes from. Yesterday he missed all of 4th period and some of 5th as he recouperated in the nurses office. I only know this because they wrote it in his agenda and then erased it but I could still read it. And yesterday I get his PE midterm grade, a D. He's supposed to be on pass/fail for PE. The OT called me and she is working now with the PE teacher to try to make it more successful for Kyle. I've sent some emails and I want to raise h*@! but they are trying to work on it, supossedly.
Samantha with her claws out.

Samantha!
What a pain in the tush! I tried to get APE or PT help for Cait last year and no go. She is in a specialized PE program (ie the kids in her AS class have PE together 1 time a week so no regular PE). I can't imagine regular PE for the poor kid.
You keep fighting!
Renee
Oh, Renee, its not only regular PE but its two sections of PE in the gym at the same time. Now come on, how do they expect him to cope with that! I just don't really know what to do to fix it. If they move him to another PE class they'll have to change around his whole schedule.
Samantha
Samantha,
It is one thing to get a poor grade.

I got an email back from the principal. This is what he said: I was aware of the arm injury prior to the break, but I was not aware of the recent incidents. If some of the PE activities are too physical for Kyle, perhaps we should consider some adaptive activities that his aide do with him. I think it would be best to keep him involved with the class as much as possible, but have adaptive activities planned (on the stage, in the wrestling room, weight room, etc., that his aide could assist with. Your thoughts?
I haven't replied yet. What do you guys think?
Samantha
Samantha, my first thought was: DUH!
Imagine that.
I would ask to get it formalized in an IEP or at least a 504.

I'm so sorry. I know I'm new and just have a little guy (4) but these are some of my worst fears. He has hypotonia and is very clumsy. He lost his front right baby tooth just running on the blacktop at school(when he had just turned three). He didn't know to put his hands out to break his fall. I would be so upset if my child kept getting hurt!
How is your son's attitude towards PE now? Must be very difficult for him. Big hugs.
Molly
I agree.
I would write back that you think that those are some very good ideas. That you would like to have an IEP meeting to formalize some of those ideas or brainstorm any others the team may have.
Renee
Molly,
I just wanted to jump in here and say that my son gets PT (for hypotonia, hypermobility, and (unofficially) sensory needs) in school in addition to OT.
I had to push hard to get it.
