Pink Slip woes

Our school gives out pink slips for mild/moderate behavior and citizenship reports for more serious behavior. At the end of the school year in our school this means in the upper grades that they are strikes and by receiving them you lose end of the school year activities. a pink slip is 1 strike and a cit. report is 2.

Needless to say since my son has the challenges he has, he can be rather prone to both of these. This year he has done fantastic and has only collected a few, but in years past I could have wallpapered his room in them. (ode de school discipline decor)

Yesterday, Mike got his first pink slip since this was implemented and his first in a couple months. This is awesome for him. PLUS - I gotta say. It really wasn't his fault. He was obsessing with his one little friend over spiderman (he is going to the party to watch that this weekend) when 3 other 5th grade kids came over to the table and wouldn't leave them alone. Then one kid started jumping on the table (a rule at school) and other such things. Well Mike eventually flipped and jumped on the table and called the kids "an inappropriate name". Likely "stupid" or "idiot" if I know Mike. And he got a pink slip from his aide. This is very typical for how he gets one. Usually I use it just as a communication of what has gone on or a bad day.

He has now lost the end of the year water baloon toss at the teachers and if he gets 2 more (which under end of the school year stress is very likely) he will lose the end of the school year pool party or could even lose being able to go to graduation.

So here is my thought. I am going to fight it like a suspension/manifestation thing. I am hoping it works.

BTW, This part I have to laugh at. On the slip there are a variety of things to check off WHY the kid got the pink slip. One of them checked says "did not use common sense". NOW COME ON! Perhaps for a kid who has SOME!

Watch out, here comes mom.

It's so sad that the school focuses on the 1 or 2 negatives and don't look at how MUCH his behavior HAS improved over time. It's also too bad they don't look at the big picture for when he is penalized. I hope the other kids were given pink slips.

Go get 'em, mama bear!

I went thru this with Marisa when she was in 4th grade. The problem I had was when she got in trouble, she would do the missing recess thing but ALSO loose a privalege at the end of the year. I'm like what??? Getting punished twice for the same thing? NOt even courts do this!

Anyway I was mad. She worked really hard academically all year, and deserved this end of the year picnic they were having. And get this.... They were going to make her and the "Other Bad Kids" sit on a bench while watching all the other kids have fun.

I threw a hissy fit with the teacher's (they co-teached) and pulled her out of school that day so we could go to the movies. When she went back one of the teachers was questioning her, and my dd said "Mom took me to the movies"

Toopid school.

"did not use common sense"

They've met Mike... right? It's not that he doesn't any at all, it's just that he's sooooo much like Eva..... gotta walk 'em through that process more often than not.

I'm sorry, but my common sense shuts off too when people do stupid things.
