I wanted to share my poem, because quite frankly, nobody else I know would probably quite get it. I was also sad and angry at the time so it may reflect that. Thanks for letting me share.

Indigo Girl

I have a little girl

She is indigo.

My imperfect treasure.

My little girl trembles

Sights, sounds and touch

Assault her.

I tremble now too.

"You're a good customer!"

She says...for no reason.

At least she is verbal, they say.

Somehow, that means I’m lucky.

Is she alone in there?

Is she alone in there?

Echolalia; look it up.

I had to.

Arrogant thief, autism.

Stealing babies

Leaving us with shadows.

But it can't have her

or her smile because

Mama loves her crazy baby.

I get it! I get it! (jumping up and down, waving hands) I had a lot of the same feelings when we first looked at Ayla as being on the spectrum. She is such a powerful child, but at the same time so withdrawn. She likes bright colors, but people's voices and large moving objects (like humans) leave her curled up in ball. And sometimes the things she says just out of the blue really make us do a double take.

I wrote a few poems about my ASD kids too. It was great therapy to help me cope and just get on with being a mom. But I'm not sure if I could share them though, I'm not as good at poetry as you are. Your poem is great! I love it. Thanks for sharing it.

Peace,

Candes

Thank you! Your poem is beautiful, and it just made a sad day with my little girl a little better.
