I hardly have time to lurk lately, but I have to mention this milestone to my on-line buddies who will understand why it is important....

My 5 1/2 year old Aspie used sarcasm last night!

He was kneeling next to the tub, where is little brother was taking a bath. They were playing with their tea-set toys, pouring water. His brother poured water on his sleeve, and he said, "Oh great! now I have to change my clothes!" The tone of voice was pretty flat; not angry and not sarcastic, but not "great" either.

I can't get DH to stop using similar sentences, so I have been telling my kindergartener for years that "Daddy is using that funny voice because he means that it is NOT great." I guess it all sunk in: what Daddy means and how to use it.

Yeah!!!

AND he changed his clothes by himself, which he can do, but rarely does because of the effort it is for him. Yeah!!!!

Whooohooo, that is fantastic. I love it and at such a young age! How cute!

Mike occasionally now will use sarcasm similar to his dads and it cracks me up when he does. It only happens when he is in the right mood and then he cracks himself up too. Other times sarcasm makes him angry or goes over his head but I love when he uses it. DH and I are pretty sarcastic so he has had lots of practice, lol.
