I just gotta.

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Thank you very much.

Seems that my son has decided to have the very rare negative reaction to risperadol. I guess in very rare cases it can makes kids quite hyper to the point of manic. It has been building over the last week or 2. He has been on it 3 weeks. Very typical of Mike, new med appears to work for a short time then BAMMO, watch out. The first 2 days back from camp he did well at school then it started going downhill. Not aggression, just hyper, distractable, more crying outbursts, etc. Today it was so bad his aide could barely keep him on task and he was jumping out of his skin. He had a pdoc appt tonight and she said right away it was the med. She has seen it only a very few rare times and usually when kids are on tiny doses still and haven't really been on that long.

She switched him to abilify. Crossing my fingers but our history being what it is, I am not terribly hopeful.

This just sucks in a big way. There is no med that works for him, not a single class and yet without he cannot function unless you hide him away from life and interactions.

Sorry Renee, i know it is hard to find what works. I had to think about what medications that we use in the geriatric scene (I work in a nursing home, and they are like over grown children) For similar behaviors that might work in kids. I know of a couple. Seroquel and Depakote. Depakote comes in a syrup so it may be easier to figure out a children's doses. I believe it is also used for serizure control if I remember correctly, but I have seen it being used for behaviors too. The main draw back is that it takes time to build up and like many similar drugs, you have to check the blood regular to monitior for levels, the fine line between theraputic and toxic. Seroquel, i need to look it up a little more but again used in psychcotic behaviors in geriatrics. I know this one works quickly but I am not sure if it is availible to kids or not. My only thing is that geriarics and perdiatics can be be so similar in behaviors even ASD I wonder how many of them were ASD in their lives and if some poor snook will be shaking her head at my kid when it is his turn to be in a nursing home.
